Hi, I have never worked on this model before, user guide states the memory is not replaceable and it has a ssd drive. The customer dropped it and now when booting it has nothing but a loud fan noise, no post either. Mobo toast?
that helps, I started to take it apart then thought I'd see if anybody else had the same symptoms I am getting, not the usual stuff I see, it seems to wind up like its overheating but does nothing.

You might be better off sending this one to a shop that does board level work. Its a very expensive machine and if you are not familiar with this kind of thing I dont think you are going to find many people who have worked on this model to give you any assistance.

I think your right, this is my first look inside these new super flat units, from what I'm gathering there doesn't appear to be any ram or sata hard drive that is removable?? I don't do board work so its over my head. I'm guessing repairs on this would be very expensive. I just found this thread, http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony-owners-lounge-forum/590723-official-sony-vpc-z2-vaio-z-2011-series-owners-thread-287.html states ram and hd are not removable or upgrade-able, geez guess the days of break/fix are really numbered.
yeah, I kinda realized that after going through it, some pages were relevant to this model, but most not. I am finding mixed opinions about this one. The ram is removable but with a custom connector from Sony, runs $168 for 4 gb, and the ssd is $568. I checked some other vendors, crucial, new egg, they have nothing for this model. Sony says the ram is not removable. I talked to my customer and I suggested contacting Sony, I told him the fix will be expensive no doubt.
