New TeslaCrypt Ransomware sets its scope on video gamers

Interesting.. but dumb, lol!

With most of these video games having cloud and server accounts (especially under steam) and your progress and saved games are usually online - all you have to do is delete it all and reinstall Steam/Origin etc.

No way I would pay $500-$1000 for getting my video games back. I doubt they have near as much success with this as Cryptolocker etc has.

Yes BUT if it encrypts your save games, wait a day to sync to cloud your save games on cloud would also be encrypted.

Won't happen. First, for Steam.. it causes Steam to stop working all together. Second, it changes the file's extension.. so the software wouldn't see the correct files to upload anyways.

I see this as a nuisance virus, not an "OH POOP!" virus. So you lost some saved games, oh well. Uninstall, clean the computer, reinstall game. Games like WoW work off an online/cloud profile. Steam games, I don't think much would be lost. I play the living day lights out of Civilization 5 (sometimes 4), and I sync my saves to the cloud. What I see happening with this is I might lose a few hours to a day of progress. That's not at all bad. Granted in some games, like Civilization 5, a day of play is a lot of things going on depending on how you play.
