Here goes my friends -

Take a look at the flyer my friend and I put together! I'll probably be printing on pastel green paper and putting under windshields :) I'd love some feedback!

Thanks for lookin'!

Few issues.

Firstly, email. Get a proper email address, rather than a generic google, hotmail, yahoo one. People will tend to think more of you, as a legitimate business owner, rather than a fly by night.

Data backups. You mention that all your clients data will be backed up and secure. Where?, a usb drive, external device, dvd, cloud, on your servers?

How will their computer be faster after your visit then it was when it was new?. I really would love to hear how you do this. Not being pedantic or sarcastic with this one.

The pic is a throwback from the mid 80's. Is that your actual logo?, if so, I would seriously consider getting a new one.

These aren't guarantees or anything of that sort, more of services that I can provide them with only one visit.

I agree that the wording should be changed because it has certainly construed the wrong idea on more than one occasion, especially with people who are computer professionals that I've shown it to.

In regards to backing up their data, it will be a service I will provide if necessary (say if I'm going to reinstall) or if they're interested in a back-up of their data.

By disabling unnecessary start up programs and services and such, as well as removing altogether unnecessary programs, I'll be able to show them faster start-up and less unnecessary resources used.

Too aggressive of wording, you think? Suggestions in the alternative? I'm open to hearing 'em :)

From your intial flyer, it appears (least to me), that at the end of your visit, everything you have listed will be done to the machine. Not just if your going to reinstall etc. (backups).

Thanks for your thoughts on the faster new pc. I thought it was something I had never heard of or done.

I would suggest that you do something out of the box so to speak. Most if not all tech's offer those services, and more besides. You need to think differently.

I.E. How can I differentiate myself from my competitors.

I have different ways of doing this, from advertising the fact that I do laptop repairs. (Inc board level components - I personally don't do board level work, but I sub it out to those who do. It still counts :) ).

Advertise the fact that all work is logged, and my clients build up a profile of all works completed on their machines.

These may be little things, but they do make me different from my competition, and that's what it's all about. How do I make this client choose me, from the guy next door syndrome.

Windshield Flyers

Just remember if you're planning on doing any sort of "mass handouts". Whether it be flyers, door hangars, business cards at the mall, or even mail-outs. Statistically you will only see about a 10% Response. Now, you take into account the people who want you to do stuff like... pirated software installs for $10.00 or the people who want a $15.00 / hour virus clean. And you're probably looking at 5% or so actual business from the flyers you put out.

This being said... Make them half or even quarter page. (save yourself a lot of money on print costs!) And maybe put some generic pricing on it, such as...

Virus Removal $65.00*
(Then add at the bottom *additional charges may apply)
This way you have a baseline price people can expect, and it helps to weed out the cheapo folks.

But print up and hand out, put under windshields... a LOT of them You want 100 customers, hand out 10,000 of them. (I would advice against taping business cards to windows and doors I hate when people do that.)

If this comes across as negative I truly don't intend it to, just trying to give you a heads up from my personal experience.

No worries my friend! Thanks for your tips!

I decided not to include my pricing and would rather have leads call me because I've decided to work on a sliding scale. I worked out my hourly rate that I need to charge vs. the hourly rate I can easily get away with charging in my area, and it turns out there's quite a discrepancy; so, for those people who earnestly cannot pay what I'm asking, I'm willing to flex a bit :)

I've estimated only 2-3% return :D

I plan on starting like you say with about a thousand flyers, and going from there. If I can get even 20 clients from that, that's a lot of money compared to the amount that I have now, and those clients will give me referrals, and I'll be able to reinvest a chunk of that into more flyers. Rinse & repeat :) If I can get the copies for 7c/per, that's only $70 + the time it takes to put them out (local church, mall, workplace parking lots, shouldn't take too long, say 12 solid hours being generous @ $10/hr) = $200/20 clients on the low side, 1hr minimum at $55 minimum per hour with 1 hour minimum charge, that's $45 per client x 20 = $900 return for every $200 spent on a 'bad day'.

I hope the return will be a bit greater and it should be too considering that's my low end per hour rate that you'd have to haggle me to, and most people will be up-sold as much as I can benefit them. I'm excited just thinking about it, especially since I'll be doing the handing out myself at first, so my "cost" will be a bit lower :D

p.s.: I think this is how everyone should be equating the cost of their marketing, at least similar in essence to this.

Anyone agree/disagree with my logic or that statement?

$.07 per copy is assuming you're using a full page ad. Personally, re-do it down into a 1/4 page in my opinion. That way you're doing 2000 fliers for only $25.00 assume your 2% return and you're pulling 40 clients. (decent return on your money I'm sure)

I've done the fliers at the mall thing before and what I found is best... take some kind of book bag and hit the mall, wal-mart, whatever the local spots are (don't go to the ghetto, that's not a good plan usually) and just do it. I would be weary about paying somebody else to put out the flyers for you, because its too easy to toss fliers in the trash and then go home to play xbox all day long.

Also, make sure you do something for referrals. Percentage off, Dollars off your next visit. Make it worth their while to refer a friend.
