New computer POP download ALL emails in inbox AGAIN.

I just setup a new computer for a customer and I have never been able to figure out how to fix this issue.

I transfer the old PST over to the new computer and set it up as the default PST. Even though the PST has all of the old emails the POP server detects that the computer is new and will re-download all of the emails sitting in the inbox all over again.

My issue is this lady has 6 pop accounts with something like 50,000 emails sitting in her pop accounts because the "Leave a copy of the message on the server" in outlook was checked with no deletion date.

Normally I setup a temporary folder to deliver the messages to then just move the new ones to the correct inbox, delete the TEMP INBOX, then everything is happy but this lady already has a 16GB PST file that is super laggy, and re-downloading everything is causing outlook to crash.

Without logging into the webmail for the pop and manually deleting the emails how can I fix this.

I currently setup a brand new PST to deliver messages to. After which I will import the folders one at a time into the new PST and see if that works.

Why not login to the web server & uncheck the box? Is there any reason she needs to store all those messages online indefinitely?

The box is in outlook not the web server.

It was her choice I explained to her the next time she got a new computer the computer would probably have to download 80,000 emails all over again doubling the problem and she said she didn't care she had unlimited storage space with godaddy.

This is the box I mean.

She has this box marked for 6 pop accounts so there's a TON of emails sitting the godaddy webmail.

Also I should mention real business email is not an option.

Also moving them or deleting them on the web server isn't really an option because I don't see moving 50,000 emails as being particularly time efficient.

MailStore home. PST are not designed to archive mail. If you really need to archive mail that's how to do it.

If migrating to a new pc I always untick the store on Server box and hit send receive before moving the PST to new PC. The other option is just let them all download to a blank PST then delete the PST file and replace with migrated one

For the conditions that the OP has given (user has several emails with large stores of messages on the server, and does not want to remove those messages from the server, yet doesn't want to download old messages to a new Outlook installation) there is no solution.

There is no way (that I know of, or could find) to transfer the recordkeeping of what messages have been downloaded before from an old Outlook installation to a new one.

Thunderbird apparently keeps this data as an actual file (popstate.dat) or at least did at one time. It might be possible to copy this file from an old Thunderbird installation to a new one to give the new install the memory of what has been downloaded before. For Outlook, however, there is no equivalent.

The accepted solution is to let all of the messages download again, then add the "Modified Date" column to the view, which will allow you to sort all of the duplicates together for deletion. Except for the time required, of course, this sure looks like the best approach.

Once I had this problem I logged into webmail and dragged all emails to a new
created folder
since its pop will only bring in inbox

Here's what I did for anyone who digs this up in the future.

- Setup brand new outlook profile
- Download inbox into new profile
- Delete all old emails in the brand new PST
- Import the old 17GB PST folder by folder one at a time (contacts, calendar, drafts, inbox, sent)
- Do not import the deleted items (per my recommendation and her OK)
- New PST is down from 17GB to 7.5GB

Mail is synced.
