Today, I tested a few cables in the office. First 5 I tested where all faulty (pins incorrect, these are remade cables) so they have all being binned. Then I tested brand new cables and the same. So I'm thinking my tester is at fault. A few I tested where correct on the pins.

I currently have a Peak UTP05 http://www.peakelec.co.uk/acatalog/jz_utp05.html But looking for something a bit better, just incase it's my tester. I have seen some Fluke ones over a £1000 but I don't havea budjet for that kind of tester.

What is everyone else using? I only using it a few times a month so can't justify a lot of expense,

I used one of these for years (and still do) before I bought my Fluke CableIQ

These are nice and much better than any of the Idiot LED ones. It graphicly shows you how the cables are wired, tells you the cable length, You can test coax, and much more.

This is just a random item I selected on eBay. There are many different Sellers and prices. You can also get 7 more remotes and custom test cables from some sellers for it

The Fluke IntelliTone Pro is the best toner for tracing cables that are plugged into an active switch or such, but no better than the Idiot LED testers out there for testing cables (my personal opinion)
