I need a little help. I need to setup an automated back up scheduler for certain times of the day (when the pc (win 7) is not in use).

The backups will go to an external portable hard drive. I need a free software solution. So many different options looking online, what is a good, simple to use, free, backup scheduler?

Thanks in advance.

Todo backup is free
I believe acronis has a free solution
GFI backup 2009 (not new versions) works well.

I have used the free version of SyncBack with great success. It allows you to do many different types of backups and you can schedule the backup very easily, schedule the backup location, backup across a network, and so on.

It's really a great little free product.

Cobian, SyncBackFree, BackUp Maker or FBackup. A lot of free programs can't backup open/locked files, so watch for that if it's something you need.

Cobian is great - it can use VSS (get locked files) - but that isn't really safe.. lots of times those files don't restore properly.

You can have it run a script to kill a program (unlock the files), and send email alerts on failure..

If you want something that you can resell to the client - cloudberry is pretty cool
