I cannot use any adapters for the parallel or serial ports. Anyone have any model suggestions?

So, this uses adapters, but I think you should take a look. The Dell Latitude E Series has a Legacy Port Adapter available. It actually snaps on to the back in a semi-permanent manner. For outdoor viewing, you'll probably need one of the rugged/semi-rugged.

Several of the Panasonic Toughbooks come with Serial, but no parallel.

Well if it helps they suggested:
The notebook PC shall be
similar and/or to a Dell Latitude ATG or equal and the minimum requirements
for the notebook portable computer shall be as follows

However, I looked and that Dell doesnt have a Serial or Parallel option

Well I found this:

Code:
E-Legacy Extender, snaps onto laptop for serial, parallel and PS/2 support [$59.00]

I will have to call and see if that is acceptable.

Many old telephone systems require a real serial connection and will not work with a USB to Serial adapter. For that reason, I carry along an old IBM Think pad that has a Serial port. I only use DOS or hyperterminal when connecting and communicating with the phone system. I still have to have a more modern laptop for the other communications / connections. So on the job, sometimes I have two laptops up and running, one connected to the phone system, and another on the voice-mail system. I tried to locate a laptop that could do as you need, but if available, they are custom built rigs and very expensive. It has been a while since I looked, sorry, I have lost the link.
