Stonecat thanks again you have provided some excellent insight into the ubiquiti equipment and I really appreciate it. I watched a Willie howe video earlier where he enabled squidguard from the cli on an edgerouter. He did say that he wouldn't really recommend it due to the performance issues. I would think the usg pro could probably run it might be of interest to you? I think we might go with Cisco umbrella for content filtering. I'm waiting for the customer to get back to me about the quote hope it comes off the ubiquiti equipment seems quite good.

That video lost him his monetization through Youtube, because it blocks ads. That sucks, because he makes good videos, but he has other monetary option now.

After getting used to modern UTMs...like Untangle, Sophos, WebTitan, .....I have zero use for antiquated Squidguard....so I'd not want to spend any time trying to shoehorn it into a Ubiquiti.
Plus...what would "tank" when you do a big firmware upgrade on the Unifi USG? Would the upgrade brick it because you installed other stuff? Dunno. But spending time on old squidguard..to me the equivalent of trying to install Norton 2003 antivirus on a modern computer, wouldn't be worth the time and effort.
