I have a website I've been working on. I'm doing a few tweaks here and there but need help with SEO. Right now I'm on page 10 with Google. It's only been a couple weeks. I don't know much about SEO and find that books tell you what you need but not saying where to put things, how much, etc. If my page does not start ranking better soon I will have to hire someone. I'm finding that this type of work is very expensive. I've been quoted $600.00 a month. Wow. All I have is like 4 service pages. I would also like to get any advice on my site as a whole. Would anyone like to take a look and give me a ball park price?

MikeH, i got to say that is quite possibly the very worst seo I have ever seen from someone putting an effort into seo. I don't know what books you are looking at but something is seriously wrong. I'm not even sure what keyword you are trying to get...im guessing "computer service" ?

If you're willing to put forth the time and effort to get started yourself I would recommend doing the upcity.com trial. I think if you start shopping for an seo guy with your site in that current state someone may try to take advantage of you. Do your research on the keyword you want to focus primarily on.

Correction, I see some seo progress on the other pages but i think thats primarily your wordpress seo plugin. The biggest issue you have by a landslide seo wise is the title on your homepage.

Is there a way to clean it up? The mess might have come from trying different plugins. And of course me. I have no problem working hard and putting in the time. I just don't know what I'm doing. I think I have a general idea. I don't know what is meant by key word research, I've heard heard using tools to see other websites keywords. It seems to me if everybody is using the same key words, it's just a race to the top. What I THINK I know is this; Pick several keywords and keyword phrases like "Spokane, computer, computer service, computer service Spokane. Try to put keywords in your picture "alt" tags. When you write any text on your pages use the keywords and keyword phrases. Put the key words in a meta tag in the header section of the site. Is this correct? I needed someone to be bluntly honest, and you were. Now I just need to get this problem fixed. Please help me with this issue. I just need a guide of some kind. I need to know what to do, keywords, meta tags, or a point of reference. And where to put what. I can hopefully figure out the rest. Thanks for your comments.

Most computer repair businesses want to go for the keyword "Computer Repair" this is the #1 keyword to go for in almost all cases. When i say keyword research I mean try like google adwords tools and see what keywords are popular. You pretty much want to always go for Computer Repair the only time you wouldnt is if the competition is too fierce but that would be super super rare since computer repair brings up local results.

So if it was me the most natural main page title I would do is "Computer Repair Spokane WA"

the upcity.com trial doesnt require a CC and it takes you step by step through many different things so I recommend it for someone new to seo.....i recommend the trial, I cant vouch for the product after the trial.

The easiest way is to have yext do it, you could do it manually too if you don't want to pay. You need to get listed EVERYWHERE on the net, go here and put your site in http://www.yext.com/pl/yext-powerlistings-official-site/index.html

I think it might look better now. At least I'm hoping it will. Been spending all day at it. Would you mind taking a quick look at it to see if there is a difference?

How do I submit manually. Every time I turn around there's a charge. I can take the time to submit manually if I have to. And thanks for your reply.
oh sorry, I mean to do it manually you go to each search engine site yourself and add your business to their database, most are free. its takes time but I did it and its totally worth it. I just use yext to see who I'm missing from.

One of the services I provide my clients is SEO (I know my own website and seo is a mess right now - don't judge me).

There are 2 aspects to SEO:
1.) Onsite SEO - Modifying your website to include the proper title tags, alt tags, content, image names, internal linking, etc. This is a huge part of the process and needs to be completed first. If you're wanting to rank for "computer service" for multiple cities or locations I suggest creating pages for each of those locations. I have several service businesses listed at the top of Google for various cities and this was done primarily through creating those additional pages.

2.) Offiste SEO - You now need to get your NAP (Name, Address and Phone Number) listed on as many citation sources as possible. These are yellowpages, business directories, Chamber websites, business networking websites, etc. From there you will need to get links to your website. Many of those citation sources will link, but you need others. Blogs, Newspapers, technology forums, etc.

There is a lot of work to be done and now you know why people pay $600+ per month for this type of service. My rates start at $500 per month and go up based on locality, competition level, etc.

If you have an additional questions please let me know.

Hate to type and run, but I'm going office shopping :-)

Yeah in our area businesses without Google+ pages are paying some caller from a 3rd world Country $300 to set up their G+ page. All while they're on the phone. smh

That being said, I purchased an app a while ago that digs SERPs and shows me all local businesses in a niche that don't have websites (it also does reputation scores as well to find businesses in need of rep repair). i.e. local restaurants. I'm printing brochures and even considering cold callers to target all these local clients. Surprisingly, 44% of local restaurants don't have a website. It should be easy peasy to build a few models and sell them $500 websites.

"Computer Service" is such a broad keyword with alot of competition. You need to come up with some long tail keywords and find some that have mid to low searches. if you go for the high search volume search keywords you will be swamped by the competition.
Use Google Keyword Planner to lookup some keywords and then look at other similar results it lists in keyword planner.
if you use Wordpress get Yoast SEO plugin and use this tool to setup your keyword and meta for each page. try not to cram every keyword into the one page and use anchor text to link to other pages on your site so it navigates easy for customers
Make some youtube videos of things you fix or do at your work and post them on your page...google love videos
Get customers to do google+ reviews on your google business page which will help rankings
Set up a blog and do reviews ect and put links to your keywords
