Hey Everyone,

I been working diligently on my website, and setting up domain with e-mail. Previously I was working under the name Crespo PC Solutions which is my last name. Lately I have decided to go another route and take my last name off. Realized it gives me more room to expand and doesn't tie my name to everything. So before I get the logo finalized, and the domain ordered I came up with some names. Need honest feedback and ideas please. Thank you

Credible PC Solutions

Or

Credible Tech Solutions

I ran it by some freinds and family and my spouse and they seemed to really like the Credible PC Solutions. But since I post here often, I figured I'd get feedback from all the business owners.

Rule number 1. Family & friends opinions of business names should count for very little.

Sorry, I don't care for it. It's bland, relatively meaningless and I'm imagining saying it 100 times a day. Answering phones, regular discussions, telling customers what to write on their check, etc.

Say "credible" a bunch of times and it quickly becomes a word pronounced so quickly that YOU know what you're saying, but the person hearing it on the phone or elsewhere will not be sure of what they're hearing.

Countless times you're going to hear, "I'm sorry . . .what?" and have to say it again, slowly.

Plus, it neither sings nor strikes a chord. It's just here. It should do more than just be a placeholder on a sign or business card. It should work in your favor.

My name, Darn-Computer! for short, isn't particularly imaginative or flashy, but it immediately appeals to any customer that needs me. I regularly hear from new customers that it's my name that jumped out at them. It's nice to have an edge right from the start.

I chose my name trying to wear my customer's shoes. What would they be thinking while looking for someone like me? What will catch their eye and draw them in? If you can tap into that in your area then your business name isn't just a name, it's an asset.

Names should be catchy have a shine to them work well in a logo, so anything that can be turned into a good 2 or 3 letter abbreviated form works nicely. Like being able to have a logo that is like CPC for yours could work but still not the best. You get the idea you need it to be able to be made into a logo you need it to say what you are but be short and simple so people can see you find you and remember you.

Thank you both for great and honest feedback. I was set on using my last name of Crespo PC Solutions but had a change of heart last night. Do you think the PC solutions is still good?

Nothing really wrong with it, but so often used as to be meaningless. Any "PC Solutions" business is just one of the herd. It won't hurt, but will it help?

What's your core business now? Where do you want to go with it?

In my case, I'm a residential break-fix guy. I have a few business customers but (deliberately) not many. Therefore, my target customer isn't looking for a "PC Solution". They're Googling around looking for someone to solve the problem they're having RIGHT NOW. I want to appeal to that need RIGHT NOW.

Alternatively, if my business was instead focused on finding and serving commercial/MSP type customers my approach would be different. In general, that kind of customer isn't sitting around Googling for help. I would have to approach them and attempt to sell them on my service. I don't have to snag their attention from a list of search results with a catchy name - I'm putting it on their desk in front of them.

Of course a good, memorable name is important in either situation. But you can see that your goals can/should affect the kind of name you choose. My business name might be too cutesy for a hard-nosed executive in an oak office but it's just right for the frustrated soccer mom at home.

Currently I'm break fix and most of my clients are small business owners and residential. The residential clients own their own business and go to me for their computer needs. Where do I plan to take it? I eventually plan on doing MSP and support more businesses. That's is why initially I thought using Crespo PC Solutions was giving it a nice personal touch initially.

just my 2 cents, I would not use 'PC' in your business name, especially if you targeting MSPs, in world of ipads, macs and all other it systems, you don't want your potentials MSP customers to just see PC solutions. My business name is computermax and im already regretting it I think.

The personal touch can be important, particularly (I think) with residential. But maybe less so with commercial.

If I needed an electrician in my home, I might choose "Bob's Electric" over "A1 Top Notch Electric". But for my FTJ spread across four buildings and 25 acres I'd go the other way.

Being a man one show and doing everything myself I was looking at representing myself with my name. I honestly can't find anything else good for a name.

While Bob's PC Solutions has its advantages a business name is better because it works for 1 man to a team of people allowing growth. But you do want a name that reflects what you are while providing something unique, memorable, and professional. I am struggling on this myself trying to make a plan for the option/possibility of venturing out on my own. I would come up with some options run them by friends and family for clarity and then run them by a less biased audience for its memorability and its catchiness.
