Need help with a generic “cannot start msvcr80.dll is missing”.

My client started getting these errors on a Windows 7 Pro 64bit laptop right after I installed an Epson Workforce 3620 all in one wireless printer. Although the dialog box can be acknowledged and the laptop prints fine wirelessly the error annoyingly keeps popping up on all print jobs.

This is what I have done so far:

Uninstalled and reinstalled printer software twice. Used Revo to get all stuff on uninstall.


Did a system restore to before I installed printer. I thought that the printer would not be there, but to my disbelieve the printer was there even though I restored back two weeks before installation – anyways that didn’t work.


Did sfc /all and it told me that no system files were missing?


Googled error message and saw many similar problems, but with iTunes, HP printers, Bonjou, etc


I’m stumped! Any other suggestions???
 
There has been a recent iTunes update that dealt with msvcr80.dll. Might be worth seeing if iTunes works or is installed. The problem with iTunes seemed to be a registry change that points the system to the incorrect location for msvcr80.dll, so perhaps that could tie into it?
 
I wasn't confused at all and thanks for the link. That particular link was very helpful but there is no fix there. The link gave me the tip to do the restore.
I also want to add that it is a business laptop so no iTunes is installed and the dialog boxes have different titles but same error message depending on the type of document you try to print.
 
I forgot. I also ran Tweaking.com's All In One tool to re-register files and fix permissions. I picked fix it all. That is where I ran system file checker.
 
I would recommend uninstalling all .NET frameworks down to and including 3.5, then, re-install the .NET frameworks to current. This Apple thread talks about the issue, and a proposed solution.. but they incorrectly assume that msvcr80.dll is removed with .NET 4.0 and 4.5. The frameworks co-exist for all intents and purposes.

Microsoft's solution is *always* SFC and chkdsk, lol.

Does the msvcr80.dll exist in the /system32 folder or elsewhere?

EDIT: Just saw your newest post.. I would run SFC direct from CMD, just for kicks. I'm not sure how AIO handles SFC.
 
Don't have access to laptop at this moment it is on the job and went out of town. I won't have access to it until Saturday, but i will accept any more tips and thanks for the tips so far. I will do SFC outside of application and uninstall .Net stuff. There was a fix in the link listed above that also recommended uninstalling Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 and re-installing I might as well try that also.
 
Since it is a business machine.........does it have MS Office.

If this worked fine before installing the Epson printer< I would do the following:

Re-install printer software.
Un-Install Printer software using Revo Uninstaller and the option to do a thorough removal.
Manually look for the printer under printers.
In other words, get rid of everything related to Espon.

Have a read, just substitute "Epson" for "i-tunes" in the instructions.

By the way, you should have a complete image in case you totally hose the system and need to go back to square one.

Also, I have seen where SFC has needed to be run more than once. Open an elevated cmd prompt and run from there.
What are the SFC logs showing? Could be some info in them....Usually near the very end of the log..

Since the last post this is what I did:

· Uninstalled printer drivers again with advanced Revo Uninstaller.

· Ran SFC from administrative command prompt – no file errors again.

· Uninstalled and reinstalled Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update.

· Uninstalled the Microsoft .NET Framework and reinstalled.

· Installed my Epson Workforce 3640 printer and printed without error message.

I then took Laptop/Tablet (by the way it is a HP Elitebook 2570p with Windows 7 Pro 64bit) back to client and installed the Epson Workforce 3620 and got the same error message. Client said as long as it works they will put up with acknowledging error message and that is the way it stands right now.

It still bothers me that they have to live with this problem now until the laptop or printer is replaced.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. Appreciate the extra help, didn't even think of looking at the dates of the software. I'll let you know how it turns out.
