Looking for feedback on my 48hourslogo.com contest. I have about 14 hours before I need to select finalists.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Hmmm not a big cartoon type person myself but I think 47 is not too bad, maybe 43, even 19 without the screwdriver.

Depends on what look your going for. For me it's 15 by a longshot.
Looks the most "like a franchise"
It's not too complicated so you can make letterhead, fax sheets, a bldg sign, vehicle logos ( man I would use that face as a brand and put a GIANT one on the side of our can lol)

21 isn't too bad, 6 would be my 2nd choice. But out of those its no comparison. Some others may look cooler per se, but its not an art contest. You can do by far the most with 15 as an identity in my opinion.

I see 49 is ranked 1st. It ok, but the problem is it doesn't go with the word nerd. I mean from a quick look or from a distance it doesn't reflect the words of the logo. Just a cable and screwdriver.
15 looks like what it says.
Plus 49 is an odd shape. There is no width to it. Would be harder to layout on building, vehicles etc. You could do it, but it wouldn't fill space that well. Not horizontal space anyway.
If you look at them as if they were huge Franchises with 200 locations then a lot of the samples just don't fit that.
Logos and brand identity are frustrating stuff man. Wait til you start plastering it on your vehicles etc.
gets very hard to choose when there are more than one that you like lol.

7 Rex? Lol.
The letters look spray painted. That would be a costly nightmare to put on a vehicle or make a sign with lol
Would prob have to do it with a 3m wrap.
Sorry, don't mean to pick on your opinion but that was my least fav set lol.

I have decided on a variation of #15. Upon some research regarding the font used in #15, I found that font requires licensing from the owner for both logo and web use with a cost that is negotiated based on use. This is something I can't really justify as a startup and I don't want to deal with any possible repercussions that could result from using it publicly for commercial purposes.

So I settled on using Roboto from Android 4.0+ which is free to use under Apache Licensing version 2.0 and is very similar in looks.

I like some of the cartoon logos but trying to look at it from a long term branding solution and this one just seems the best. I did not like the font in #7, it's cool but not for me.

The final decision:

Thank you everyone for your input, it made me step back and reevaluate how I was looking at this contest.

I had some amazing entries and ended up with 74 entries from 15 designers! I can honestly say I would gladly use 48hourslogo.com again. I paid $150 and added 2 participation pays at $5/ea since it seemed like a good way to get more designers interested. I also pre-funded the contest so the designers knew someone was going to be chosen and set it to run for 7 days. I wouldn't change a single thing about how I ran my contest, I didn't pay for it to be featured or to be private which saved some money.

It was also nice to be able to kick even a small amount to my other finalists that didn't win using the participation pays.

nice

Awesome man!
Not to pick on #7 again, but imagine if you had to make an avatar out of that? Seriously... how would you do it? It would almost have to be the whole logo which would look very small all condensed into a tiny avatar for TechNibble, Facebook, Twitter etc. The one you chose is super simple. The head part works perfectly! Most people don't think of that with logos. They think which looks the "coolest", then when it comes time to use it things get difficult or expensive.

We recently changed ours also. We had one that I designed years ago that I liked for the most part. But the issue I ran into was that exact same thing. How could I use part of it for social media stuff or forums? The mouse part was a generic mouse, it wasn't 'our' mouse per se. Her is the logo on one of our service vehicles.

See how its an 'all or nothing' logo? The mouse is just generic. It has no seperate graphic to use as an accent or as an avatar like your nerd guy.

When we reworked ours this was one of the options. It was a triple thing of sorts. Had a CP in it for Computer Pro, was a face and also a mouse lol.

We didn't use that though and ended up with our current one. I was unsure at first but its working out. Not everyone see's it but its a 3-D CP which stands for of course 'Computer Pro'. It can be used separate as we do in the forum here. We are going to do our windows with it also. This isn't how it is now but was an option for a shop front redo.

And here is the the inside main bench sign redo:

And lastly our business cards:

Sorry don't mean to bombard you with photos lol. Just want you do know that you made an EXCELLENT choice with your logo pick. I would have a 10' head painted on our shop wall lol. Also I'd blast that bad boy across the side of a van like this lol:

Remember if the Geek or the Nerds can't fix it.... call a Pro! :D Your shop looks amazing. Makes mine look like child's play :(
