By chance is this for the older E series?

Using a generic audio driver should be fine. A winXP installation CD should have something that will work.

I believe it's an old E series.

The Win XP install didn't pick up anything. Do you have a suggestion for what I might choose?

Take a look at Driver Easy (http://www.drivereasy.com) which has both a free and paid version (the free version has a slower download).

It's great for identifying a piece of hardware and locating the driver for it. Will download and install it for you too.

Used it many times for when faced with old hw & drivers.

Personally, I use pcidatabase.com after looking up the pid in device manager. Sometimes they have a direct link, but otherwise a google or 2 will net what you need.

The E-series are a pain, because it was when Gateway sold it's to a company who then went belly up called MPC
