Hey all - I am going to branch into fixing flat screen TVs as well - and am going to have a dedicated web page for it.

However, I do not want or need to buy another phone.... I was wondering if anyone had experience with creating a 'dummy' number that would forward to my existing line.

I know the yellowpages used to do something similar with the ads so they could track the calls.

Any tips would be awesome!

PS - I know that magic jack used to forward - but recall seeing that they stopped doing that.

Yep, my main business number has been a Google Voice number which I point to whatever phone(s) I'm using.

I've even got an 800 number which I point to my Google voice number too.

Google voice works well for me. If you want missed calls to leave a voice mail in your Google voice inbox, make sure to turn on call screening. Otherwise, it connects to your existing phone's voice mail.

That's not my experience. I do not have call screening turned on, and my callers are always given the Google Voice voicemail. Your existing phone service is probably "picking up" before Google Voice has the chance to offer the caller voice mail. Here is a quote from one of the Google forums about it. "If you've turned off call presentation, we'll send the call to the numbers you're forwarding to, and your caller will be connected to your home, work, or mobile phone voicemail systems or answering machines if these phones' voicemail systems or answering machines pick up before 25 seconds. If these voicemail systems or answering machines don't pick up before 25 seconds, the caller will be connected to Google voicemail."

Call Centric or VoIP.ms. Both offer inexpensive local DIDs that you can forward to another number, or even have an autoattendant & voicemail.

Is there a way to have incoming google voice calls marked as google voice but still display the caller ID number? I'm aware I can have it show the incoming callers number but then I don't know if it's personal or business.

It would be nice if it could. Right now, I just have the google voice number as the caller id. I don't know who is calling, but I know they are calling my business line. If it ends up being a spam call, I log into the google voice interface and mark the number as spam. So now, any calls I get are actual customers (most of the time).

Heres the way I have my GV set up to forward to my mobile phone. First, I save the GV as a contact in my cell phone with the name of my business.

Now under settings:

UNDER PHONES
Forwards calls to:
Mobile
Receive text messages on this phone
Notify me of new voicemails via text
UNDER VOICEMAIL & TEXT
Voicemail Notifications - Alert me when I have new voicemails
Email the message to (email setup to my phone)
Forward text messages to my email: (email setup to my phone)

Voicemail Transcripts: Transcribe voicemails

UNDER CALLS
Call Screening: ON
Ask unknown callers to say their name
Caller ID (incoming)
Display my Google Voice number - if you uncheck this, it will disply customers number
Missed Calls
Place missed calls in the inbox
Send missed calls to my email: (email setup to my phone)

What happens is that when a customer calls my business mobile number, it rings my cell phone and displays my business (Your PCMD) as the caller ID. While I dont have the callers ID at the time of the call, it is sent to my email that I get on my cell phone and of course you can always log into your GV and see who called. Also I have an app (Android) that I use for mobile calls because I dont always have a pen and paper to write info down so I get customer to tell me their name, address, phone, issues, etc. and its recorded using Automatic Call Recorder.

With my settings, they don't get the Google answer announcement but my own recorded one.

Hope that helps.

I have tried google voice but it doesnt let me to choos a number or change it, any guides ??
This happens because the number you want to forward to is already connected a GV number. Try this. OR..

There is no number available for your SPECIFIC area. Then you need to choose an area CLOSE to you (Google Maps is your friend). Those are the only 2 reasons why you would not get to choose a numbers.

It's not free, but your phone company should be able to give you a phone number, and have it automatically forwarded to another number. That has the added advantage of that number being listed in the phone book. I did that for my shop so people could more easily find me - I have a toll free number through Ooma Business, but it was not listed locally. So this way people can look me up in the phone book, dial the number, and it automatically forwards to my toll free. It costs be about $17.00 per month.

This is what i have in a matter of options, i cannot do anything with that, and if i go to phones there is option to edit my email for Google Chat and make call schedule nothing else.

This is exactly what i am trying to do, well that sucks, i'll try to figure something else than.
Thanks for answers anyway.
