I need to setup a focused WAP to shoot a signal about 120' to the corner of my property for a sensor. Doesn't have to be 'outdoor' rated since I have a window facing the target. Would the Ubiquiti NBE-M5-19 nanobeam be the right choice here? I don't want to go overboard, as lives don't hang in the balance - haha. It's a wifi thingee to tell me when the mail has been delivered.

If you have LOS 120 ft is nothing for a wifi point to point.

Agree, it's not
I have an old school "sensor" on my mailbox at home. Just like this one:

Ha - that would be WAY too easy. You should be ashamed of yourself - posting a non-tech solution in a tech forum! :D

My shop and office are in the basement, so I don't have eye's on, and for whatever reason, our mail doesn't have a consistent delivery time. It's can be anywhere from 10:30am to 7pm. I think our route got orphaned or something at the post office so now the mailpersons just draw straws each day to see who has to deliver it. I complained enough about this that a friend bought me the wifi thingee, now I'm just trying to make it work. Works great on the dining room table, sends me a text within 10 seconds of the sensor being tripped. Doesn't work on the actual mailbox because my signal isn't strong enough there.

I live in a stone house, so none of my internal wifi reaches out very far. Since I don't need outside wireless for anything else, I didn't want to blanket the neighborhood just for that use, hence the idea of using a focused signal...

What is it with all the mailboxes in the US? Are your posties to lazy to walk up to the door?

We all have letterboxes over here. I know when I have mail because I hear it drop onto the mat :p

Big yards, fences and dogs... It's only really in large cities and row-housing that there is a door mounted letter drop, in my area.
Packages are delivered to the door if they don't fit the box.

Haha.
Well, in my defense, it came with the house I bought a couple years ago. I had never actually seen one before that and I found it quite a novel idea.
It's handy to just look out my front door and see if mail has arrived.

Our mail is pretty consistent though, shows up around the same time every day.

I could see where your little sensor would be handy in your situation.

Is that sensor 5GHz? The NanoBeam you linked is. Also, a nanoStation may work for this as well. They both have window mounts available.
Can that sensor be connected to a hidden network? I would hide the WiFi you're beaming out to that sensor if possible.

Those aren't legal where I live. It's not allowed for anything to be dropped to the inside of a home. Not sure if legal is the right word... but I know they won't deliver mail to a slot at a residence.
