Ok... so ive had this windows xp disk for a while (which i got off a torrent) i have reinstalled/rebooted my computers with it a few times with no problem and it has never in the past asked me for a product key, and has always passed WGA.

So my desktop has gone poof again and needed a new install of windows xp pro... so i overwrote the old xp, and at the end of the installation it asked me for a product key! i was shocked so then i had no choice but to look for an illegal key. I eventually found the master product key which is:

Master Key For Windows XP ( Service Pack 2 & 3 ) is xxxxxxxxxxxx

I was very cautious of this as I new i wasnt going to be able to pass any WGA tests... and i was right... now i need to reinstall AGAIN, but without the product key... can anyone help??

thanks a lot!

Did you really just post this? I know it's early but unless I read this wrong everything you are doing here is illegal.

1. Windows XP is good for 1 computer so you shouldn't be using it for all your computers. (illegal)

2. You got your original xp off a torrent with a key I am assuming (illegal)

3. You went and found a "master" product key for your computer (illegal)

4. Are you serious?

Yes i no, I don't use it on any other computers, just this one computer. And the torrent is not illegal, Microsoft allows XP to be installed without a product key now. The only illegal thing I have done is using the master product key, i had no choice. I need to reinstall without using a key.

Just to give you a heads up man, I took it easy on you with my post. You are going to get flamed big time for what you are doing. As a technician you should know better. I highly recommend you "undo" what you did because technically you should be reported to Microsoft for using an illegal key.

And the torrent is not illegal, Microsoft allows XP to be installed without a product key now.

This is true when using for example a Dell branded XP CD with a Dell computer..My guess is you downloaded an "illegal" torrent that had a VLK built in which didn't require activation. This is also illegal.

Using illegal copies of any software is just not the way to do business, even if its just for your own computers. Other than the obvious moral issues of doing this and that should be enough to stop you, your competitors will report you if they got the chance. Dont give it to them. Do it by the book.
