My website

Its awful. Please read the information in this section of the Forum, apply the ideas there, and re-post when done.

Interesting to me that you are a well established business with such a poor online presence. This means you stand to gain quite a bit by improving your site. All the information is here if you take the time to read it.

Although it's very clean and well made, it does look dated.

I'd look into getting a more modern site. Also, include your phone number on the home page and possibly some pictures of your premises.

Pictures of your staff that don't look like they were in a cheap TRON knock-off is a good idea:

While not to do with the website itself, under "Malware Removal", you offer a cheap Nuke & Pave and then an actual removal for $180? Do you not trust your staff's skills to remove most viruses?

well built but dated. I like your facebook i like your content a couple of acticles a had posted too! I just went to a website rebuild and i am much happier with it! Dont take it hard about what everyone one said. They mean well the people that post are very helpful and know what they are talking about! The said similar stuff about my site and when i thought about it they were right! An updated site will be great for business!

Thanks for the feedback folks! This site was built on a weekend back in January when I taught myself how to do the coding with Kompozer and some online tutorials.

One of the issues that I face is the fact that probably between a quarter and a third of the people in my service area are operating on dial-up. Hence, I haven't wanted to create content that would be painfully slow for those customers to load. My store is located in a town with a population of maybe 600 people, and the district I teach in covers 600 square miles, with only about 250 kids in the high school (grades 9 - 12). As you can see, I'm in an extremely rural part of the state of Maine, which is why so many people are still on dial-up connections. For many of my customers (especially the senior citizens) I find that a simple clean site is easier for them to utilize.

Having said that, there were still some great ideas. I like the suggestion of putting my phone number on the home page. In fact, I'll probably see about putting it on the header, and that way it's on every page.

The pictures were only supposed to be temporary. Unfortunately, time and other things got in the way of getting some good pictures. This is a good reminder that I need to fix that! Thanks!

The Nuke and Pave is actually going away. We implemented that a few months back because we were spending way to much time on scans, and limited bench space made it difficult to get machines through the shop. Plus, for many of our customers they only use the machine for online browsing and did not have data that needed to be saved. However, after reading various things in these forums, I think we can improve our process on virus removal and offer it for a much lower flat fee. That's one of the things I have found helpful since I joined here a couple weeks ago - thanks to everyone who posts about their methods of malware removal!

So - again thanks to everyone for their thoughts. I would certainly welcome more ideas if anyone wants to pass them my way, and I'll see what I can implement.
