Got a deal on a Macbook Pro a little while back. Was very slow when I first got it. The reason being a 5400RPM HDD and 4 GB RAM. Quick trip over to amazon and 20 mins with a screw driver and I now have a 240 GB SSD and 8GB RAM. Core i7 CPU. With a fresh install of Mavericks it screams. (hate Yosemite) Less than $200 for the RAM and SSD and only paid $300 for the laptop. Not bad for less than $500.

Yeah great when you get a deal. Not in your league but picked up a Lenovo Thinkpad for £65, added 4GB ram and a 256GB SSD dual booting with Win 7 and Ubuntu. If flies. :D

Sounds nice,

I also got a "new" laptop just recently!

DELL PRECISION M4500 1920x1080 WEBCAM i7-740M 4GB 1TB NVIDIA FULL HD BLUETOOTH

With Windows 7 pro 64bit. I put Linux Mint on it also and the thing really rocks. 339.00

Wow, 240 gb ssd and 8gb ram for less than 200? Did prices drop a lot recently? Haven't looked at an ssd in awhile now, but might look into it now.

My "new" laptop was still expensive, but a good deal nonetheless. ThinkPad w510 1080p, built in color correction hardware, the old style (best style) keyboard, 500gb sshd, 12gb ram, i7 for $600. Been holding off on a full ssd drive until 500gb ones are reasonable prices, so maybe that will be my X-Mas present to myself this year.
