My new job at Geek Choice.

Welcome back to the scrapyard.

It's interesting to note that of all the fawning posts made by others, few have actually bothered to offer up any form of critique in response to the OPs original post. At least the input I've made has encouraged him to make some positive changes to that site.

You know one of the more interesting things I have gotten out of all your work here is getting to play a lot more with Woopra. I have it setup for the site now and hadnt actually had a user spend nearly 3 hours on the site combined (I doubt its completely accurate there, but its what woopra thinks you've done.) So I have gotten to see how it tracks multiple referers for the same client, and time across multiple visits. Its been a good learning experience on that front. I still use google analytics, but its nice to augment that with some realtime stats.

You know- to tell the truth, you actually have a point there. Maybe your methods are a little bit brutal, but you did actually get your point across better. There were a few parts though that made you seem hostile instead of productive though, like the first post- but really and truly you did in fact do good in the end. I applaud you for that but try and be less presumptuous and more profound.
Business is brutal, especially these days. I make no apologies for not withholding my punches in regards to Geeks Choice, I think it's now perfectly clear that their site has only recently employed some dubious and unlawful marketing practices, so has the leopard really changed its spots? Those who've been here longer than a couple of months (sadly they are few these days) will recall I was equally robust in my condemnation of Ge eks Mo bile USA who was/were subsequently banned from this site.

Unless there are people who are prepared to stand up and make a stand against these type of 'businesses' they will spread like a cancer and bring yet more negative publicity against the professional standards many of here us elude to.

Yeah I think that's going too far, this isn't an 'air out people's dirty laundry' forum. How would you like people to share your past? Do you have nothing to hide?

Besides, protesting scientology is something any sane person SHOULD DO.

Absolutely right. There are a few of us, but not in Boston.

I help run the http://forums.whyweprotest.net forums. I protest against a few things actually. I am going out and doing more tomorrow afternoon. Its one of the principles this country was founded on. The ability to speak out about injustices. I am pretty passionate about some of these causes. Wish I had more time to spend on some of them.

As for the copyright infringement, I wrote tools the bad guys used to do their work. I was programming as a hobby. I just made some stupid decisions as a teen that had me writing tools that pretty much only the copyright infringers would need. They were challenging tools to work on. So it kept my interest. It shouldnt have and I know that and I served for it. There are tons of things out there about me. Hell there is a multi-page article in Wired magazine (the current, october issue) all about me and the movement whyweprotest.net is doing. I think my full name appears a couple times. Same thing happened last year in Maxim. I've been on tv here in boston multiple times for it. Including an hour long show on WGBH. I actually just got off the phone with my mom yelling at me because I didnt tell her about Wired and she wanted a copy. She heard from a friend.

Some of you probably have seen one of the videos up on my youtube account since it has 3.7 million views: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCbKv9yiLiQ

I get very passionate about the things I work on. I am happy now because I am so glad to be doing the things I am doing here at work. Its nice to actually wake up and want to go into work.

I have nothing against gregg, but if he has been up to these sort of things what else is he hiding from us, this is relation to what iptech has been saying so far, how can we trust what he is telling us, it could all be a scam.

Oh hell no, you have me all wrong. I am not telling you to trust me. Anyone who says "trust me" throws up red flags. I am saying "look at what i've done so far" and "I know I have a LOT more to do." Pass judgement all you want, but at least give me a few more months to have all of my work in place.

To use a criminal record agianst someone on thing to factor in is when was it did they serve thier sentance when was thier last record how many of these instances relate to thier work. The copyright one is the only one which is pertinent and given his story of it I suspect its a somewhat old so it shouldn't be a factor anymore.

I did not use his crinimal record against him, i mearly stated his name and the things he had been up to, i think we all have a past including me that we are not proud of but life goes on, lets hope gregg sticks at his job and makes geeks choice a better company, because the company has a bad record of complaints and needs a new out look and i think gregg can take the company forward, only time will tell.

greggh,

Please forgive me for going off topic a bit here. I've been following this thread for a few days now and just want to say a few things.

First of all, the way you have been handling the negative energy and rude comments in this thread is highly commendable. Personally I would have gone past my limit some time ago. Your ability to detach emotionally from hostile communication is awesome, something I could learn a lot from.

I also have a lot of respect for your work in exposing the cult of scientology, and protesting their presence in your city. I recently learned that a church of scientology has sprung up in my city here, and I was truly shocked and angered. I just wanted to say thank you for your effort in this area.

As for the business which you have been hired to transform, I wish you the best of luck. I really don't know if the criticisms of others are valid concerning the legitimacy of the business as I haven't researched it myself (they very well could have great points for all I know), but I don't understand why you would post about your new venture here publicly if you were engaging in something malicious. I don't see how that would benefit you.

My only question at this point would be why was the business run so "shadily" in the past, and what inspired the change of heart in the business owner to turn it around into a legit operation?

Its pretty obvious why, the economy is going down the toilet - 4-5 years ago you had $1500 dell pc's with broken Norton and XP SP1 getting a virus as soon as you unpacked them, and you could hire a moron to do a virus removal for $400 a people paid it. Now its 10 times tougher, demand is lower, and competition is much higher. They want to up their standards because they HAVE TO, to remain competitive. There's no more icing on the cake.

Wow, this thread has really opened up a can of worms.

the way you have been handling the negative energy and rude comments in this thread is highly commendable.

Could greggh be the next Ron Hubbard? He's certainly evoking some irrational belief system amongst some here. Could the back-peddling bicycle be the new e-meter?

Don't get me wrong I have immense concerns over the way the Church of Scientology work but I would never resort to DDOS attacks and childish harassment campaigns against them. There are legitimate ways to register a protest just as there are legitimate ways to promote a business.

The hit count must be going through the roof on this one Bryce, just a shame it's not focused upon the legitimate ways to grow an IT support business.

I think you guys need to look beyond what is right in front of you. Greg was hired by a national to fix the place up. The place may have had some shady dealings in the past but I dont see why Gregs reputation suddently adopts it all when he just joined. Its like you going to Geeksquad and then adopting all their past dealings.

Greg has been totally transparent with us this whole time and if you cant see this, think about it logically; why would Greg open this up to us if he felt he had something to hide? Shady businessmen dont do that, they remain... well.. shady.

Great post. It's actually simple. The owner backed off a bit and let the other employees do whatever. And he let it go on for so long. He finally decided to get back into daily operations and realized how bad it was. At that point he brought me and a couple others in and gave us the power to start fixing everything.

Actually I had nothing to do with the ddos. I dealt with the press releases and videos and planning IRL protests. I was actually associated with this because I did it all right and got protest permits.

Ugh guys get off this. This is so childish. You've managed to hijack/trainwreck his thread. This is not who we are. How bout some self-respect and decency. Or what you want a medal for learning to work the google machine?

That's about the crux of it. Google is something of a double-edged sward.

Happy ranking guys!
