As far as I know, based on past experiences, I would consider Acronis as the worst option for sector-by-sector cloning. Who knows, it might have improved since the last time that I played with it.I agree with everything you've said except one thing, the clone I performed while not by ddrescue was a sector-to-sector clone using Acronis. I don't know if it is anywhere as good as DDRescue in that regard, but it was a sector to sector clone nonetheless. I will definitely be more intelligent in my approach in the future...
I cannot quicky find any documentation stating it, but I'm curious to know how many sectors are skipped and how Acronis reports read errors during a sector-by-sector clone. It certainly will not come close to ddrescue, which, in turn, doesn't come close to the DeepSpar Disk Imagers or PC3000 units we use here.
As I just recently posted, my free offer for remote support is no longer available. Assuming that minimum damage has been caused to the original drive, it should just be a level 1 recovery...usually done within a day or two of receiving it here at the lab.
