Heya everyone @ TechNibble.
I'm in the process of creating my own boot cd (with a bootable menu, hardware diags, password recovery, recovery disks, and a bootable environment). I've almost finished, in fact the only major thing I need is help from you regarding screen resolution from said bootable environment. I've followed the guide here and have made a winpe 2.0 style image, however the default resolution is ridiculously low (I think it's 640×400), and I don't know how to change it. This is quite a disadantage as many tools (such as EZPCFIX and Diskdigger) are squashed to the point where tasks are uncompletable. So, does anyone know how to change the screen resolution of a winpe environment?

PS: I plan on uploading this for the TN community so you're only helping yourself

But I know this can be done, I've seen it on another winpe cd

I have no experience with creating my own WinPE. But would love a copy when your done ?

What WIN PE CD was that ? Can you shoot the author an email ? Maybe the will be able to help .. 640 x 400 is rather low, you'd expect the generic drivers to at least be able to push 800 x 600 .

I'll have a look around for you anyway, and see if I can find somethin' that you've missed :)

This may be a stupid question .. but do scripts work from a WIN PE ? Like .bat and .vbs ? The system variables wouldn't be the same it it worked I would imagine :o

Yup, I intend to upload a copy of the entire cd when it's finished.

I remember seeing this but I can't remember what it was...

I know that .bat files work because the programs I put on the pe environment are compressed with UHarc, and to decrompress them I put little batch files in there. As for .vbs scripts, I'm relatively certain they work but I've not tried one.

Thanks for the link, I saw it yesterday but it requires 'setres.exe' from an xp cd, which I don't know would work from the vista based disk. I'll give it a go later

i dont like vista for pe because imho it takes more ram to boot it and if youre working on older machines itll take forever to boot

Yeah good point, but I intend to use this along side UBCD4WIN. For one thing, UBCD4WIN is very slow, and for another it often BSOD's on newer machines
