Could be lucky and it's dodgy RAM but 90% of the time this is a faulty GPU. If it's an HP laptop make that 99.9% of the time.

Need more details, my friend:
  • Make and model of the laptop
  • What you've done to test things besides "pressed the power button" and "swapped the CPU"
  • What your client told you happened to the laptop (although keep in mind that this may not be the truth)
  • Have you checked for signs of liquid damage?

That's just for starters. It sounds like you may be new at this, and we are a helpful bunch, but we need more info than, "It won't turn on. Help!"

As mentioned above, a bad GPU is frequently the cause of the symptoms mentioned. This means a complete motherboard swap (ie, expensive!).

Here is the situation, no POST with power on for few minutes then turn off.
External monitor no video as well.

I would suggest we give laptop a discharge and rest first by the following steps:
1. remove all power sources including power adapter and battery.
2. pressing the laptop power button over 15 seconds do not let go.
3. connect the power cord only and power on the laptop again.

Then, we may check the RAMs by swapping the RAM on each different RAM connectors, or use a paper rubber to clean the RAM pins before putting back.

Sometimes, change another small Bios battery can show us the video display again.

All after these, chipset level repair including the GPU reball is needed.

Hope this helps.
