My 1st Mac - and I already broke it!

My brother gave me an old eMac to play around with and learn on yesterday. I opened it up to clean out the case (he has cats, and I'm very allergic), and as I was removing the cable from the power button, the button split in two. I'm guessing it was cracked already, because I was trying to be careful. As easy as it came apart, I thought that it was designed that way, and I got it go back together, but it will not power up. Apparently the whole button assembly is held in with a metal retaining ring, but part of the assembly came apart still attached to the ring.

Does anyone know of a fix, other than replacing the button? Thanks in advance.

Best thing to do is just replace the button

You have to break a few before you can fix a few. Good thing it's a "play computer".

Yeah, I've broken my fair share of those buttons and cables with all the logic board replacements I've done on those. We used to keep a couple spares around, but not so many of those machines roll in for service anymore.

Yeah, that's what I thought - thanks for the replies. In the meantime, I was able to "jump start" it using a fine wire in the start button harness, and then I just put it to sleep so I can wake it from the keyboard. That will do for now. :)
