Hello i have searched and searched on how to transfer music the right way i keep getting this (this file is missing media usage rights) error i backed up files and restored i even cloned the hard drive any ideas

What kind of music files are you backing up? This doesn't sound like you are moving a common music file like an mp3. Instead it sounds like you are moving some sort of downloaded, copy protected media. There are certain music sites that have copy protected music and along with those songs, a media license is required. Many times that music can't be easily moved from pc to pc, even with the license files for a simple reason...it is copy protected to keep people from giving the music to their friends or sharing it online.

If this is a case of copy protection, then you need to find out where the music was bought from and find out what their rules are for moving the files from pc to pc.

What format is your music in and where are you trying to transfer it to?

Generally this error means your media is DRM protected.

It's DRM. You probably can't transfer it.

if you purchased it from Apple, iTunes will let you deactiveate the old computer (MUST be running) and activate the new computer, then you will be able to play the protected media.

I have no idea how to do it for anything else or if it is even possible.

i tried the drm thing and it didnt help the files say wma it was transfered from windows vista to windows 7 some songs play and others dont i wonder if i use the fabs auto back up to transfer them will it allow them to play

It won't help... the files themselves are locked down to the specific account used to purchase them. Get the account information back into whatever tool used to procure the music to make it play. (IE: Napster, Itunes, Rhapsody, etc.)

DRM---Why I stopped buying online! I lost a hundred tracks, I didn't know any better at the time. Even a change to certain hardware can prevent DRM protected music from playing.

Do any of you give consideration to backing up the DRM licences when working on clients pc's?

I'm just glad I screwed up on mine and learnt from it, not a clients!
