Music icon Meat Loaf has died aged 74.

While I never bought any of his cassettes or vinyl or went to his shows (yes I'm aging myself)....his music was popular. Yes some of us old guys might admit to singing it at parties when the girls all rallied up when someone cranked "Dashboard".

He lived a few houses down from my ex sister in law...in Redding Connecticut.
He was known for his enthusiasm in music, and putting on really incredible concerts.

Tje concerts I attended were out of this world.

First saw meat, at Wembley (London) a few years ago, the show he collapsed at.

Then on the same tour, I saw him at the MEN in Manchester. (Big arena tour).
I was lucky enough to get tickets for the front row!!!.

Boy, I was hoarse and deaf after leaving the gig.

Saw him another 2 or 3 times, and each time it was an awesome experience.

As an aside, the gig meat collapsed at, I found a official forum, from memory. Called room at the top.

Some people were slagging meat off, for cancelling the remainder of the tour, and not giving money back for the short gig etc.

So I put my 2 cents into the discussion.

Couple of days later, I received a email. It was from meat himself.

I called him Marvin in the post. He replied, I'm known as Mike, or meat. Take your pick lol.

Anyhow we chatted a while via email, and I got a invitation to go backstage and meet him at a show. Problem was, he was in the US somewhere touring, and I was here in the UK.

Wonderful guy, fantastic memories. And bat out of hell has been blasting away via Alexa since 8am this morning, when I heard the news.

Keep on rocking Mike.

Meatloaf was such an incredible talent.
Jim Steinman was a songwriting genius and Meatloaf (and many others like Bonnie Tyler, Barbara Streisand etc) made his songs come to life.
Don't forget the golden voice of Ellen Foley, who's vocal talents added the other 33.33% to the perfection.

I bought the "Bat Out Of Hell" Album the day it appeared in the record store and I was an instant fan.
I remember the first time I heard "Paradise by the Dashboard Light." With my GF (later wife) beside me, the song touched a nerve deep inside me.
Still listen to the album at least once a month.

The only blemish on Meatloaf's stellar career was his performance at the 2011 AFL Grand Final in front of 90,000+ people.
Embarrassing to say the least.
RIP Marvin and Jim.

My friend celebrated his life by singing the karaoke version of Paradise by the Dashboard Lights. We LOVE that song.
