I was just made aware of the MSDaRT bootable CD's and found that they are pretty impressive tools. I had a hard time finding the downloads on my technet subscription so I went to look on google and found some torrents of them. The question I have is do I have to buy the MSDaRT CD's or are they free for professionals?

I really like the locksmith feature for resetting all passwords on the system.

So, is this download of DaRT legit or should I look into finding another way of obtaining a copy legitimately?

For Technet subscribers, you download the MS Desktop Optimization Pack, from which you get DaRT and ERD Commander etc.

To download DaRT from Technet you must be a Technet subscriber, which is, IMO well worth the annual fee MS charges. All you need is the basic subscription, which is around $200-$300/year and it includes allot of perks, so it's well worth the price.
One thing you must know about DaRT is that it's intended use is mainly for corporate techs, who want to avoid reinstalling an entire OS in the event a computer becomes unbootable due to file corruption.
When you create a DaRT CD, it must be done from an OS identical to the one you plan to use it on. An example would be that you are running Windows 7 32 bit and create a DaRT CD, it will not work on any other OS. Also, you can't make a DaRT CD for any OS, other than the one you are making the CD from.

I live by this tool, I have every version available and use it every time I run in to a non bootable Windows OS.

Technet is freaking awesome. I got in to the pilot program in 2009 and have never looked back. Every year they get their fee. It is truly a wealth of knowledge.
