Brand new desktop with a Gigabyte mobo (sorry, can't remember which one), Intel Pentium Dual Core G3240, 4GB RAM and 1TB drive, running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (x86)

OS and all updates installed perfectly, as did all mobo drivers, things like Adobe Reader, Flash; all drivers and supplementary programs for a Canon printer and also a Brother printer, and some other stuff too. In other words, it's all working well and everything has installed exactly as it should - until I came to install MS Office 2010 Professional Plus (think it's Student Edition if that makes any difference although I don't think it should), when I get this on screen:

It is running a genuine, authenticated 32-bit edition of Windows 7 Home Premium but it's SP1 version. Surely the error message can't mean that it wants the older, pre-SP1 version, so what does it mean and how can I get round this? Oh, should also say that I've tried installing in Safe Mode but same thing happens.

Have you tried installing using compatibility mode?

Also, try running the installer 'as Administrator'. I remember having a similar issue with 2010 Starter on Windows 7 that was resolved by running the installer as Administrator.

Well, sorry it's taken a while to reply - he's a very busy guy and I've only managed to get back to him today. Anyway, it's not good news :(

Compatibility mode was selected but greyed out so I can't deselect it. I also ran the Microsoft Fixit on the link given by Nline above and it said that it was "fixing problem"...."Fixed" but no joy, it still gives the same error message.

I'm just about to set off for the weekend away so won't be replying until Monday but, any further ideas folks?

TIA

I'm assuming that compatibility mode is only stuck on for that file so try downloading the installer and running that without the compatibility mode selected. (I'm assuming from the picture that you're installing from a physical disk).

Is there a previous version of Office on this? Might need to nuke it and then try to install. Also the Tweeking.com AIO repair tool might fix this.

Per his idea you can redownload the installer from office.com so long as you've got the install key.
