I have reformated a clients machine with WIN7 and they cant install office 2003 as I believe their install CD is damaged. How can I get hold of 2003 CD that will match their key?

Try making a image of the original disc and burning it to new media or coping the contents of the disc to the hard drive and see how you go.

If it doesn't work PM me and I will help you, but please try the above first.

Honestly, I'd tell them to upgrade. I hate when I get cheapskate customers who don't want to spend a couple hundred dollars on a software upgrade every few years. I've gotten to the point to where I try to avoid dealing with people like this. The way I look at it is if they are too cheap to spend $30/year ($300 over a period of 10 years), then they are going to be too cheap to pay me for my work.

I can understand people though. However another option is to install open office. That way they get more up to date software but they are not paying so everyone ifs happy

I've heard that Open Office isn't being developed. My impression is that Libre Office is one of the better (and still supported) ones.

As time goes on, I basically feel the same way. I usually do put open/libre office on most home machines because it does everything they need it to. Also it's less confusing to them than the newer 2007 office and beyond. But if they want MS office and cant find discs/whatever the case is...then time to fork out the money and upgrade.

I agree with the above. The fact is that if they want Microsoft you gotta upgrade at some point. But if you are happy with Libre Office or Open Office, use them.

I used to install Open Office, and then later Libre Office in cases like this. But last summer I ran across Kingsoft Office Suite 2013 Free (http://www.kingsoftstore.com/software/kingsoft-office-freeware) and haven't looked back. It's fast, installs with no co-dependent software and supports both 2003-like menus and 2007+ ribbons GUI. There's both a free and a paid version, but haven't had a need for any of the functions in the paid version.

Worth a look ...

I have a couple of clients who have been quite happy to migrate from the bundled trials of Microsoft office to the likes of Libre once they've been made aware of the fact that they can save in the ms formats...

Oh and they're free....:)

I am not sure Office 2003 is even compatible with Windows 7. It may be too old. Maybe I am wrong here though

Sometimes is not about the money

I use 2003 on my computers, does what I need, very simple to use actually. And it does install on w8.
I have customers that buy 2010 or 2013, hate it and ask me to get rid of it and put their 2003 version back, so I am sure there are case of people not wanting to spend the money, but that is not every case
