OK, so I have now seen 6 different variations of the FBI virus, 30+ times. I think this would meet my favorite virus requirements.

1) Visible
2) Non-destructive to files
3) Easy to remove
4) Quick to remove

Crytolocker remains at the top of my hate list. The fact that once infected, you either pay or lose everything, means it does not meet 3 of my criteria. What are your thoughts? Most favorite, least favorite?

For the most part I'd agree, but I've had a few versions of the FBI virus that got pretty nasty. Most scareware isn't particularly destructive either. What takes forever to clean up and makes a nasty mess is all the toolbars and registry cleaners. If those count, I'd put them on the same level as some rootkits as far as annoyance.

Most favorite: conduit

May not be visible, but it sure is everywhere it seems

Least: cryptolocker

Its one you can recover from, assuming VSS works. And even then, you might still lose things

The reason visibility is important to my requirements is because if you don't know you have it, why would you pay me to remove it?

OK, that sounds selfish as I re-read it.

As far as the cryptolocker. We tell our customers and tell our customers to back up their data and they just won't. so sorry, too bad if you loose your info.

Problem is I have customers that use services like dropbox or G-Drive to back up their data. With cryptolocker their data can be encrypted in their dropbox folder which uploads the encrypted filed to the internet and then to other computers that are on the same account.

Now I know dropbox has a restore to older version, but I don't know how reliable it is..

Like: the RCMP / FBI virus family. A breeze to remove and makes me look like a hero.

Dislike: Cryptolocker...just...brutal...I feel bad for the ones who have no backups/no way to recover.
