Mobile Payment Processing (Canada)

Just curious if anyone has found any reasonable solutions for mobile payment processing in Canada? I've contacted my merchant services but the rates they want for mobile solutions are insane!

Do you guys use mobile dashboards? Mobile readers for your phone/tablet? Mobile debit machines?

What's the verdict on ease of use and reliability on these devices? I'm getting sick of calling in to the shop and processing things over the phone (we get charged extra for cardless transactions).

Square is pretty hard to beat, with their free swipe reader, no set-up fee and decent rates. I signed up but have yet to use my account. They have been discussed here before so do a search for more info.

Thanks, I did look into square. The problem is they use a Swipe-only reader, here in B.C. at least many of our banks enforce chip/pin authorization on all cards, the swipe function is completely disabled. So I need a solution that offers chip/pin authentication which is the difficult part since I don't think a mobile addition would quite work for that, It would require a dedicated terminal.

Heck even my Scotia card does not work if I try to swipe it. It says "Mag Disabled, use chip" if I try to run my debit card without the pin.

You can make a charge via Square's website, but that is probably no less hassle than calling it in to the office, but it may be cheaper. Not even sure it will work with your bank but worth exploring, perhaps.

TD offers a mobile POS, which uses a pinpad that connects to your smartphone. I'm not sure what the cost associated with it would be though.

---Update---
After some digging, I also found PAYD Pro by Moneris. It's the same setup, a pin pad that pairs with your smartphone. Cost is $19.95/month rental plus 2.65% per credit card transaction. No charge for Interac debit.

Thanks! I'v called around and it looks like Paymentech does not charge a rental fee and has lower rates (2.59%) but it's still a lot higher than the 1.44% we pay in store. I think it's worth it to get the money now rather than wait for a cheque in the mail or call-in and run it by phone. (which we pay 2.65% anyway).

I haven't heard of them disabling mag stripe but you said debit card. Square doesn't do debit only credit cards. The other option is send via email the quote and have them pay it online...

Theres also the Square EMV Reader, not released yet but im considering pre-ordering mine if I see the chip cards more often. $50 up front that is later reimbursed to you after you start using it

When your reader ships in late 2015, we’ll charge you $49. Once you’re accepting payments with it, we’ll reimburse your processing fees up to $49 within the first three months. It’s the reader that pays you back. Your new reader works with your Square magstripe reader, so you can keep swiping cards the old-fashioned way.

Per transaction though Square is more expensive. I guess it depends on how much you're processing.

Square also doesn't to Interac.

I've got one more for you: https://www.waveapps.com/payments/

Never pay extra fees: No setup fees, no monthly fees,
no card storage fees! 2.9% + 30 cents

Payments by Wave iOS app is available only in Canada.

ive heard the best stuff about payd pro by moneris, its also one if not the only small business smartphone based readers that accepts debit
its who i plan on choosing

square has the new chip reader and it starts shipping next week ... we have 5 on order.
we were looking to switch to someone else as the 2.75 was a little high... talked to my rep at square and he dropped us to 2.3 percent... best pricing after you spread every other fee out on a standard unit was a smidge over 2%
Needless to say we are sticking with square for now.

I'm with a group I don't remember the name of, but I get 1.45% on all credit cards, + a 10$ POS rental fee. There are absolutely no other fees, not even a minimum. Debit is 0.10$ a transaction.
I have a terminal with a pin pad, but I could have opted for a mobile on for about 15-20$/month.
