I have 2 Win 7 laptops in a small office, one is logged on as Admin, the other as a standard user.
The standard user's role is for data entry only. The only 3rd party software installed is MYOB, Firefox and JottaCloud.
The Admin's role is for email, some data entry, (via Excel), web searching and general use.
3rd party software is MS Office 2013 Pro (yes it's legal!), Firefox, Adobe Reader, and general stuff like Java, printer etc.
The Network, Action Centre and Power icons are missing from the system tray and (apparently) have been for some months. (Whether they went missing on both computers at the same time is unknown)
No new software installed apart from Windows Updates and no software removed in the last 2 years.
Both have Emsisoft Antimalware but the problem started long after it was installed.
I've removed "IconStreams" and "PastIconStreams" from the registry but the problem persists.
I've Googled and Ducked but apart from the recommended fix above, there's not a lot else.
Nothing I've tried seems to work.
The options under right click task Bar --> Properties --> Customize... --> Turn system icons on or off are greyed out and I can't find any way to enable them.
Restoring default icon behaviours does nothing.
Has any one else come across this problem or found a fix?
