Migrating from 2003 SBS to 2012 Standard

We are installing a new server for a client, Server 2012. This server is running AD, DHCP, DNS, the usual suspects, basically a file server that hosts their database for their club management software.

Can I somehow migrate the domain to this new server, or would it be better to just start over and remake the domain on the new one manually?

They have around 20 computers and the same amount of users.

I am assuming that you weren't using Exchange in SBS 2003 or are going to be moving from that version to something not on the local server.

If this is the case I'd recommend staying away from trying a swing migration and start fresh and create a clean domain on a new server. You will need to bounce profiles around on the workstations which can be a pain but things will be clean. I'd recommend Fab's AutoBackup to backup and restore profiles - that works well for me.

Be careful not to undersize the hardware. I always try to present a hardware solution with 2 middle of the road Xeon procs and plenty of RAM. Disk space is cheap but be careful not to use high capacity drives to build a large array for storage, you're better off using more drives of a smaller capacity to achieve more storage space (favor the use of 1GB drives over 3GB drives), I've had issues with drive failures.

Moving them to Office 365?
if you have Jonas or Club Connect or whatever....they running the Access based one or SQL version?

I'd go with a true migration, especially if you're moving Exchange to the cloud. And the club software will be an easy move.

Get a decent server with 16 gigs of RAM, RAID 1 with a pair of 10k SAS and do the data volume with RAID 5 or 10 with 10k or 15k SAS drives....nice beefy fast data volume for the Club software 'n all the shares.
