Mhelpdesk kicked me off my cheap pricing plan.

I've been with mhelpdesk since 2013 if I'm not mistaken. I signed up using the ACRBO member discount and I was only paying 22$ a month. I'm a one man shop, so this was perfect.

Now I got this email from them:

Thank you for trusting mHelpDesk with your business. We are truly grateful to be able to support you and your critical operations.

To be able to continue providing you with the highest levels of service, we will be raising the cost of your monthly subscription by $40 per month beginning with your next billing cycle.

This isn't a decision that we’ve made lightly. We work hard to provide you with the absolute best value that we can.

This will be triple my original monthly price. So I'm sitting here wondering what other services you can recommend. I tried negotiating with them and there's no budging. I guess they wanted to kick out the old fogeys that supported them early on and got a cheap price instead of being thankful and grandfathering you in with your old plan.

I just need a simple invoice tracker that keeps client work history, etc. No multiple location or inventory is needed. Any suggestions are appreciated. And hello to the few old faces that may remember me around these parts. It's been a while.

I got the same email. Cost of doing business. You can't expect them to lose money and free ride you forever. And as I understand it even under the new rates they are not making much of a profit from you. One support ticket opened by you and the cost of supporting you eats all the profit.

When I talked to them they were like our plans start just shy of 400$ a month USD.

Edit: UTF emoji's don't work here?.

Invoice ninja can be free if you host it yourself.

Love me some Freshbooks ... they raised my price too but I'm so tied into them and Freshbooks classic so so damn easy to use I cant move away.

Ew. mHelpDesk is now also a "Request Pricing Quote" company. I think last time I talked to them it was per-tech and something like $50/month each. $400/month is a hefty amount.

Re BusyBench, that was going to be my first suggestion. Might also be worth listening to the recent Podnutz Computer Repair Podcast episode where they talked with Mike? from BusyBench. Watch out, there's also another one that's a year or two old. I think these may also be on YouTube (they're normally livestreamed Sunday afternoons and released as podcasts the following Thursday).

Re: Freshbooks, I still have my grandfathered-in Freshbooks Classic account for a few side things, and I can't decide whether to jump to the newer version. Apparently "Classic" wasn't really all that well structured internally, or at least had a fair amount of technical debt built up which was the reason for the rebuild. I believe that's based on interviews with the founder.

I was $23 a month and now it's $63 a month, worth staying for in my opinion but I am doing more changes with the business in the upcoming year, so I might consider doing the PDF archive for my tickets and use my search to find old stuff. I started with them in 2010.

It looks like the one with the 100 customer import limit is InvoiceNinja. BusyBench is starting to look better.

I'm not aware of any such limit. Please show me where you see that.

Ok, I see it.

The $8mo. option removes that restriction, and the max monthly charge is $12mo.

You can also self-host if you wish.

If your a 1 man shop the 8 dollars a month is a great investment. Gotta spend money to make money.

Or you can self host on a VPS for 5$ a month.
