MaxFocus question

I am testing out MaxFocus and installed the agent on a client PC. I enabled Patch Management, AV, Web Monitoring and Remote Access.

The client had wha appeared to be Adobe Reader 11.0.10 installed and there was an update notification in the taskbar (it says it was an update to 11.0.10 but it looks like it installed 11.0.11. However, no matter what I tried, it never appeared in the MaxFocus console as a patch update. Does anybody know why?

I will probably upgrade this client to Adobe Reader DC but if I'm going to sell patch management as a remote service, I want to know that the clients won't be seeing these pop-up reminders to install while on my console side I don't see anything.

It depends on what you have your settings as for 3rd party apps inside your control panel.

I got tired of MAX's third party updates and went with Ninite.

If I did my math correctly to use ninite on a computer costs about $4/year once you have it on enough machines. This is well worth the money.

It costs me $20 pr month for ninite pro. Just using it on 2 machines imo saves me money. Well worth the cost.

With Max or Ninite you will need to turn off Windows updates and there are scripts you can run that will shut off the nag prompts from Flash, java, iTunes, etc.

The way the pricing works, it is from about $.20 - $.40 /per computer/month depending on what pricing category you are in. It averages out to about $.30 per computer/month or $3.60/year. If you have 100 computers you are paying just $2.60/computer/year. if you have 501 computers you are paying $4.43/computer/year. Over time it averages about $3.60/computer/year

As soon as you hit 60 computers you are at $4/year

I was trying to determine the disadvantage of keeping auto updates on plus patch management. Maybe having them both would be more likely to get them installed, but we would not be giving our clients that smooth taken care of feeling.

Besides turning off Windows updates,I am guessing you would want to disable via the action center warnings that pester your clients to turn them on.
