Can someone tell me how you can obtain items like polo shirts, posters, etc through manufacturers to advertise in your business?

Look for sources...and place an order.

Often you'll have local "print guys" or local "business apparel" companies, that can do this for you. Good choice..because you're doing your business with other local businesses...which is healthy for the economy, and can lead to them doing business with you. As we've experienced many times over!

I'm a firm..FIRM..believe in doing business locally when you can!

If there are none local to you (I doubt it)..there are tons of online places. I'd still try to follow the above mantra as best I could, and find a place that was as close to me as possible. Above all...I'd insist it at least be based in my country...and that it sold product that was made in my country. This is at least supporting my countries economy.

I don't see your location, but in the US...there is a place called "Queensboro" which is based in North Carolina..and they do have some lines of product which are "Made in the US".

I would not purchase apparel from an overseas company that gets them made overseas. //gives vista print the evil eye

Like Dell tee shirts or Eset coffee mugs or pens or Untangle posters or Microsoft plaques, stuff like that?

Ask your sales rep! Ask them to come visit your office! Often when they come to visit, they'll shower you with lots of swag. We have the New East US Eset rep coming by at 3 today....you can bet she'll have more goodies for us.

We've done very well with DattoBackup as resellers, last year we got a box of really nice embroidered polo shirts from them....and I often may hinting jokes to our rep for more of that stuff.

Just ask your sales rep..."Hey man, what do you guys have for SWAG for us? Any posters to put up in our shop? Any coffee mugs, pens, shirts, caps, etc?"

Ask and yee shall receive!
Looking around my desk right here, I got SWAG from Microsoft, Google, Datto, Untangle, 3COM/USR (old), Crucial, Aflac, Eset, CDW, Verizon, numerous stuff.

All that swag comes from the manufacturers or wholesaler reps. Back in the day when I was doing time at CompUSA I got all kinds of stuff. And still have some. Intel Bunnies. One M$ t-shirt with something like "Microsoft Windows Vista - Experience the Difference".
