Malwarebytes 3.0

for past month having been having trouble getting malwarebytes to update some of my customers have bought 1year sub can't get them to update they are still on version 2.
Just get the error can't contact update server left mail but nobody has got back to me in weeks, looks like i will have to make a script to manually update malwarebytes if this keeps up.

malware bytes 3.0.6 seems to be running good so far ill post again if i manage to duplicate the previous issues with this version

Nope does not appear issues are completely resolved just much much better than before. i still need to close mbam 3.0 if i plan to play games while doing several other things or my hardware inputs like my mouse and keyboard will occasionally be non responsive.

So get this guys my issue was not malware bytes, malware bytes did trigger the issue and closing it eliminated the issue from happening 99% of the time but in certain heavy use situations I notice the issue occurring slightly. The strange thing is I can prime95 full blast and the issue doesn't happen at all. I went back over things i've done in the last few months, installed a new video card, a new 3.0 usb card, bought some new usb devices, keyboard, mouse, foot pedal, vive, oculus rift.

I finally figured out what it was, it was the EVGA Precision XOC software version 6.0.2. There were no signs that this software was the culprit as it didn't have any heavy cpu usage or even constant spam in process monitor but sure enough uninstalling it resolved the problem completely. I even installed the newest version 6.0.9 and the problem is still gone.

Can I still run Malwarebytes alongside my Symantec, McAfee, etc.?
Certainly! We built Malwarebytes 3.0 to be compatible with all major antivirus software, even Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials.

I have one question. I thought mse was no longer supported? I thought I read a press release from Microsoft that they were no longer going to support it. Have I spent the last 2 years giving bad information?

Has anyone noticed an issue with MB V3.0.6 and Win 8.1 where Windows Defender reports that it is turned off and there is no way to turn it on?

I just got a call from a client who says he had a pop up message from MB Premium V2 to upgrade to V3. Right after the upgrade he saw the pop up about WD being turned off. He also said that IE 11 will open, he can see the address and menu bars but that no Web pages load.

I'm on my way there now so I''ll let you guys know what I find.

Switch it to never register in action center and restart.. see screenshot below.

I would also turn off self protection for now.

Also set these exclusions in Defender.

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbae64.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\MBAMChameleon.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\MBAMSwissArmy.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mwac.sys
C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\farflt.sys

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\MbamPt.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\assistant.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\MBAMWsc.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\mbamtray.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\MBAMService.exe

I can assist further if needed. :)

Warning---- Do not do any uninstalls and re installs of MB WITHOUT DEACTIVATING the license FIRST.

I just got back and wound up telling MB not to register in the Win Action center as an act of desperation. I didn't turn off the MB protection or set any exclusions in WD. I rebooted a couple of times and all was well. I wish I saw your post before I left. It took me an hour to figure out the work around.

Thanks for the tip about deactivating the license before uninstalling or reinstalling.

Oh yeah, his IE zoom was set to 10%! How the hell he did that is a mystery especially when you have to go to "custom" to get to anything less than 50%.

Are you personally having these issues???

I will respond to this issue only in TEO if any one wants more info. If needed we can start a new topic there.

Yes please, I keep forgetting to reach out to you. I know on my personal machine with my lifetime license I been having issues with auto update. Every couple of days I get the notification to downloaded latest update.

Hey Porthos, got another one for you. The client just left me an email so I haven't seen the issue first hand or did any troubleshooting yet.

MB V3.0.6/Win 10/64 - Client reports that the Web Protection module is turned off on two laptops. He said he went to enable it on both, gets a starting message and then it remains disabled. He rebooted to no avail.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Let me dig up my step by step notes, Will edit soon.

I use these steps.

Remember some Malwarebytes features are only available on Win 7 and above.

These steps might seem excessive but I do it with all my clients and has prevented many common issues like the ones being reported on the MB forums.

Close all programs especially browsers.
De Activate MB in My Account.(Not doing this might end up blocking your key)
Please save your key as well.
Uninstall ALL MB products with Windows Control Panel.

Reboot NOW

Run MB Clean see below....
What do I need to know before running mb-clean.exe?

  • Warning: It does not backup the license activation key. Please make sure to backup or obtain the license activation information before running the tool in order to restore paid versions.
  • Warning: We also recommend deactivating the product before running the tool. Refer to the links under "Helpful Resources" for detailed instructions.
  • It does not clean Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Mobile
  • It does not reinstall or repair a product; this can to be done manually after cleanup
What are the steps to use mb-clean.exe?

  1. Download the latest version: https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb_clean
  2. Close all open applications
  3. If applicable, backup your license key and deactivate the product
  4. Double-click mb-clean.exe to run it
  5. A prompt to confirm the cleanup will appear, select “Yes” or “No”
    • Yes - will proceed with the cleanup process
    • No - will exit the utility
  6. Utility will launch a Command Prompt window which will disappear once the the cleanup process completes.
  7. Once completed, a log file ("mb-cleanresult.txt") will be on your desktop and you'll be prompted to reboot
    • We recommend an immediate reboot
    • Suppressing the reboot may result in an incomplete cleanup
  8. Upon reboot, your machine will be free of the supported products mentioned above and ready for re-installation of Malwarebytes
Close all programs especially browsers.

Install
mb3-setup-consumer-3.0.6.1469-1096.exe installer from this link. This installer is posted and available from our main website.

Check for updates and Reactivate Malwarebytes and reboot again. DO NOT SCAN Yet.

Add these exclusions to your AV program and add your AV program files to MB's exclusions under folder exclusions. If you use anything other than Windows built in firewall also allow access there as well.

    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\assistant.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\MbamPt.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\MBAMService.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\mbamtray.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\MBAMWsc.ex

    • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbae64.sys (mbae.sys on x86 systems)
    • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
    • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\MBAMChameleon.sys
    • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\MBAMSwissArmy.sys
    • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mwac.sys
    • C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\farflt.sys
Now run your first threat scan.

Please note when running a MANUAL scan of any type MB is designed to max out the CPU to make scans faster. Instruct clients not to attempt to do any thing else during manual scans. NEW to 3.0

I personally set these automatic scans when the computer is most likely to be ON and NOT sleeping.
Daily hyper scan
Weekly Threat scan.
I have never seen the need for a full custom scan ever.

The automated scanning runs at a lower CPU priority than manual scans.
