Attempting to work out a little process of elimination, a customer purchased an A new system from me, brand new Acer Veriton, 2GB RAM, 3.0 processor.
His old system was a Systemax from about 4 years ago and he upgraded that to 4 GB of ram before it died.
So knowing when he bought this I advised him the system may be a little bit slower and we can purchase more RAM if he decides to go for it. Today I call him back with his RAM cost, and I am told the system runs slow, he goes to google and search is slow, it is just not as fast, etc.
I suggested we move on with the RAM upgrade.

This leads to my question, I know he uses Magic Jack, he has 5 USB devices out of 8 hooked up. I am not sure if he has installed anything else over the weekend and won't know for sure until Thursday.
Does anyone know if Magic Jack is known to utilize a bit of memory? For what it seems to do I can't imagine on 2GB (though that doesn't seem much these days) that little piece of software would be a memory hog?
I am going to guess 4GB just will speed things up, may it be to his expectations I am not sure.

I'm running Magic Jack on a 64-bit Win 7 machine and, according to Task Manager, the working memory set for MJ is around 45M.

if he was only using 32bit xp with 4gb ram he was only using 3gb of it, so even adding a gb should help in his new machine

I'm on win7 ultimate 32bit 2GB ram athlon x2 4800+
magic jack is using 34.9MB. 75 total processes using 63% of total memory. Firefox is the big memory hog here using around 375MB plus it's plugin container using another 50MB.

Thanks all, I know he is a fan of Firefox and I suspected that was a portion of his problem, and though it has only been 3 days, he has Magic Jack and of course his system is on 24/7. Thanks peaceful for that Firefox tidbit too, pretty certain when his RAM doubles up he will have the speed he had on his other system then...if he doesn't, I am setting my hair on fire and running out the door! :)
