Mac Antivirus Suggestions

You are doing it again, just because you have to enter your password does not mean its not a virus. What you are talking about is an exploit.

Edit: I don't think anyone said macs arent less likely to be infected. Thats obviously true.

Here is the thing. If I have to manually install it there is really no difference in me just going in a manually deleting system files. I want you to show me something that is destructive to my Mac that I don't have to manually install. Just like the ones on the PC side. Anyone can manually screw their system up, be it Mac, Windows or Linux. Are Windows users having to type their root password on every install of everything on a bone stock install? Or are they simply visiting infected sites or clicking "yes" to anything that pops up?

You're looking for an exploit. Windows default user is admin so he would have to click a UAC prompt but theres a way that viruses can get past a UAC prompt when running as admin. If the user is standard which is kind of like mac is by default then im pretty sure the normal UAC bypass method cant inject to do that exploit without the password. I think what you are talking about just clicking yes is more of a java exploit. Most PC infections the user is downloading something and launching it not from an exploit.

Finding an active windows exploit that would infect a system without manually running a file would be very difficult for me.....well...for free it would be difficult.

Finding a mac exploit like what you are looking for would be nearly impossible even with money as they arent as common and they arent worth as much money.

I am looking for a antivirus for a friend's Mac. I suggested avast!, but being that it slowed down some users computers, she is apprehensive of trying it. Do you have any suggestions for a Mac antivirus?

If they want an AV then Kaspersky also gets my vote. I'm not sure if it was mentioned but Apple does maintain their own built in protection. But, like M$, it's not perfect. Intego is also a option.

The PDFs with the MD5 Hash-verified OS X Malware come from OS X Malware Testers.
The MD5 Hash-verified OS X Malware has been approved by
the Malware Analysts of the OS X Security software Vendors, too.

Since you are an OS X Malware Expert (I assume...),
you need to scientifically prove your claim that
'OS X is Malware-impenetrable.'

1. Come in contact with both OS X Malware Testers and
Malware Analysts of the OS X Security software Vendors.

2. Ask the OS X Malware Samples from them.

3. Setup your OS X Malware Tests.

4. Conduct your Tests.

5. Record your Test Results proving that 'OS X is Malware-impenetrable.'

6. Publish your Test Results in the OS X Community.

My method is slightly different.

1. Call or contact on forums everyone I know who runs a computer repair business and works on Macs.

2. Ask these real world experts how many viruses they actually see on Macs.

3. Check my own repair log, see how many infected Macs I've had in the shop in the last 5 years.

4. Post results on here to piss you and a hand full of dyed-in-the-wool Mac haters off...
