Ever had a computer repair that just seemed to go wrong at every turn ?
That caused you lost sleep because you could not get the "BEAST" out of your mind ?

Yes, but I have found that sometimes you just need to walk away, and then the solution will just jump into your head.

+1. Usually at least one night to sleep and don't dwell on it. Helps you figure out things you hadn't thought and lets you examine your entire process of operations. I've solved more problems I've been stuck on that way. It's not easy to do as you feel like you are (at least temporarily) admitting defeat, but it usually always pays off.

I learned from a college professor of mine whom I took at least 4 computer networking classes from. He wasn't a typical all theory no practical experience type of professor either. He not only wrote the class material, but created the labs (through hours/days/weeks of tinkering and fine tuning), maintained and fixed all the equipment. Many times with many 4-5 hour labs he would need to trouble shoot problems that came up. Anything he couldn't fix in 15-20 minutes he would walk away from and sleep on. Then by the time the next class rolled around he presented to the entire class the solution, and even what caused the problem in the first place. If time permitted and he felt it was relevant enough he would recreate the problems again on all the workstations for us to go through fixing it. Truly a remarkable professor.
