Looking for good email solution for clients with 3 devices, one pop account

Hi,

I'm looking for a good solution for a client whereas they have a pop account and want to be able to see their sent items and inbox wherever they go. They are running Outlook on all of the devices and may use an Ipad as well in the near future.

I have considered using imap but their server does not a large amount of email for a long time.

I'm not sure if Office 365 would work or Google Apps. There are other people with pop accounts on the same domain name.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

5 users I believe. Does google apps sync on all devices? I had no idea it was free for up to 10 users.. I should look into it then! Thanks

Rackspace does hosted exchange with pop on the same domain.

I looked at it and it looks like a cery attractive option. That said, I will see if they are willing to do all accounts on it. If google apps does 10 users for free maybe thats the best choice I have to look into that now..

Syncs to most devices - iPhone and Android definitely no problem at all. However there is no Outlook sync tool in the free version.

Can Google apps simply forward the pop mail and still sign it with the correct email address when you send out ? Do you need to use a gmail address instead ?

If they have their own domain name then you can use this with the free Google Apps no problem.
You will need access to the domain so that you can change MX records etc.

If they are Outlook users....why not pair what Outlook was designed for...Exchange?

Yeah...Office 365 or hosted Exchange elsewhere.
The other users can move to Office 365 too. Or....as mentioned, RackSpace has a package that allows you to mix Exchange and POP mailboxes with the same domain account.

Outlook Anywhere synched to Exchange....does exactly what you want...you can synch nearly endless devices to the same account.

And, again.....it's what Outlook is designed for!
Tell them it's time to outgrow POP...POP is for home users. Time to graduate to Exchange! Get yourself a reseller account for O365 and/or RackSpace and start making residual on this.

I use Outlook on my desktop, connected to Office 365 for my business email, my gmail, and the email accounts from my ISP (roadrunner) for me and 1 son. On my iPhone I use the built in mail app to connect to my Office 365 and gmail. Since I have the iPhone I don't normally need email on my laptop, but when I do I just sign in to my O365 account on the web and work from there, but I have used Windows Live Mail to access it and it did a pretty good job.

The only thing is I have to convince the owners to port all of their emails over. I was looking for a solution for one pop email address on the domain. Perhaps I should sell it to them and I think either Google Apps or Office 365 will make a good solution.

I still wonder if its possible as a forwarder for one pop address though (ie no need to change the mx records for the whole domain).

It's simple really, POP was designed when having email at all was unusual, never mind multiple devices. It was never, ever meant to support multiple devices and cannot properly do so. There are lots of half-arsed workarounds but that's it. The only technically correct solution to their situation is to either start running their own email server (Exchange) or start using a service that supports delivery to multiple devices. There is no other way.

I don't normally need email on my laptop, but when I do I just sign in to my O365 account on the web and work from there.

This made me think of the Dos Equis guy! Lol!
