I'm pretty sure someone here has made reference to one. Finding isn't a trick -- finding one that doesn't need drivers does seem to be. Sure, I could put the drivers on my flash drive but I'd rather find one that needs no help at all.

There's no urgency on this. I've just got a few bucks in my Paypal account that I thought I'd get myself a little treat.

I'm pretty sure you put that picture there for reference, but dont ever get that model. last time I did it did not work with windows 7 or vista and only had drivers for windows xp.

trendnet TU2-ET100

Sorry I can not 100% confirm the OS had the drivers though. I did plug it into both an XP and Windows 7 computers and they both did install with out the cd that came with the drivers. However both computers did have a wireless internet connection so I am not sure if it went out and got the driver or it self installed via the OS

Yeah, you would think by now that for devices like these drivers wouldn't be required. It's not like the hardware is overly complex. Have a basic LAN driver built into Windows and be done with it.

As far as suggestions on equipment, I have nothing.

The one that I'm almost positive was mentioned here had, apparently, the most generic chipset and never needed help to install. I know 7 is really good at driver detection but that's almost always on a machine that's online so I don't know how much of a difference that'd make (I don't usually shoot myself in the foot and take it offline to install drivers ;) )

I haven't found anything as yet that will work on Win7. Problem is, only techs like us would use it and there is not enough money in it for someone to develop and market it.

If someone does know of something, I'd buy three to keep on hand.

What numnutz said--that's what I have and it works like a charm with pretty much everything I've used it on. With the Win7, you're sure USB is enabled & working?

The local community college uses these USB RJ45 dongles in the networking classes. I will try and see what model they have next time I am there. I know Windows 7 and XP loaded them just fine without having (to my knowledge) use a driver disk of some sort.

Huh...I see what y'all mean about the Trendnet one. I just tried it on Win7 and no dice. Could swear I've gotten to work before but maybe I'm hallucinating.

K, so now I'm in on the hunt too.

Thought this might work http://www.maplin.co.uk/usb2.0-to-ethernet-adaptor-with-3-port-usb-hub-531356 but theres no info on drivers. Filed in the FAQ form with " does this come with a driver cd / require a driver download. Llooking for one that needs nither so just plug it in and off you go, no drivers required"

Reply from Technical Department "The item is classed as plug n play so doesnt require drivers."
Anyone back in the UK could have a look in the box?

Looks nice. I usually like Anker quality.
Interesting to note that on Amazon UK it's £19.99 and in the US its $19.99. Bit of a break for us here.

Can we please use the correct terminology?

It's an USB to Ethernet adapter, not a USB to RJ45 adaptor. RJ45 is a telephone connector description and is used for many things

Please, lets all stop feeding the incorrect use of terminology.
