So, with an impending move and seriously in need of some new work shirts, I thought maybe I'd redo my logo, freshen it up.

My current logo is in my signature. Here is the new one, what do you guys think?

+1. The only changes I would suggest are to 1) darken the word "in" and 2) change "Computer Service, Parts, and More" to "Computer Repairs and Services."

When I first saw it, I thought you are selling computers and pants.
I would not put a pair of pants in my logo, especially since I fix computers.

I understand what your saying, but an integral part (and quite well received from customers) is the uniform and always wearing 'khaki' pants. I appreciate the feedback, but the pants need to stay in some manner.

how about creating a mascot... maybe a computer monitor wearing khakis or something.... maybe try and integrate the two a bit more....

Right, if someone glances too quickly at the logo (at a car magnet or decal for example) he/she might miss the "In" part of "Geeks In Khakis". If all they see are the words "Geeks" and "Khakis" and the icons you have there they might get confused.

If you have the logo embroidered on a shirt, same thing might happen, as the word "In" is relatively smaller than the rest of the words. (edit: sorry was referring to the current logo)

I agree that a single graphic that embodies the idea behind the logo would be better.

I really like the colors and the fonts - they go very well together and are appealing to look at.

that said, I think the design is too 'busy' - inasmuch as there is so many things going on with it.

Not altogether sure about the pictures of the pants and the monitor - I get that its the name, but it doesnt really add anything to the design as those aspects are already spelled out.

I think a single image that depicts a quality of the company, would be more effective and require less energy to 'decode' .

Another SF2 fan. SONIC BOOM!!! :)

If we ever have a big TN get together, I want it to be near a Street Fighter machine...

Also, I kinda like the newer logo. Yes as commented it does look like it was done in mspaint in 1995, but that style is all the rage these days, in fact...

I think your old logo is fine. I'd darken the colors as suggested but other then that I wouldn't change it.

Changing logos is a bad idea most of the time. Remember that people have to see things about 15 times before they even notice it. So by the time you are sick to death of it the rest of the world is only just starting to notice. And logos can have a way of sticking with people even if they forget the name. Change it too much and the people that might recognize it but have forgotten the details are lost to you.

My logo is a black and white CRT Style PC. I've been thinking of changing it to look more like a flat screen monitor but I'm reluctant to do so for the reasons outlined above.

I don't think changing your logo matters very much for us. Wal-Mart did it *shrug* and yeah, they are big enough they can - my argument is that you're small enough that you can as well. Anything in between probably shouldn't change.

That being said, provided you stick with the same basic theme so the new logo actually looks like a refresh of the old one, (which yours does) and not a completely different logo, you still have the same basic colors, the pants, etc... then it should still be a recognizable brand by your clients. EDIT: heck, look at the Microsoft Windows logo for example. Changes every release, and still it's basically the same logo as it always was; just they gradually altered it over time. Despite all the changes over the years, it's one of THE most recognized logos in the world...

I recently made the call to refresh my old logos and it is one of the best things I've done. I worried about brand recognition at first as my new logos are drastically different, but I figure I'm small time enough that I should probably change now, before I grow any and it's too late...

Just my 2c.

I was speaking in general about changing logos not particularly at the OP's ideas.

This explains my POV and it's one I've read and seen in many a marketing book.

All that aside. Like Foolish I don't think your new logo is that different but personally I like the original one better. But someone did suggest darker colors and that I think is a good idea.
