I was at a party on Christmas Eve and I was talking to a friend of the family who runs his own medical practice. He was telling me about the nightmare of dealing with his IT support firm and how there is no way to understand what they are doing because when he starts to question what is being done, the techies start hiding behind technical jargon and using the "IT language" as a shield. It looks like I am going to get some consulting work out of this as I am going to look over his setup and see if things are being done properly. (If they aren't would it be a conflict of interest for me to put a bid in to do the work properly?)
The doctor asked me if there was any state of federal licensing or certification needed to practice IT. I told him none that I knew of but there may be some requirements for someone who is working for the Fed gov or State gov.
I'm trying to figure out what other occupations need some types of official licensing or certification to practice trade. I'll start a list and if anyone can add to this it would be greatly appreciated.
Locksmiths (no criminal record)
Doctors
Laywers
Legal Assistants
Paralegals
Nurses
Judges
plumbers??
electricians
Surgeons
Anathesiologists
Pharmacists
The reason I want to know what occupations require licensing or certifications is I want to compare them to specific jobs within the IT field.
So, does anyone have any others to add?
