Lexmark is getting out of inkjet printers

I won't miss Lexmark, some of their low end printers were terrible. Regarding HP bloat, I've been pleasantly surprised with the last couple new HP printers I've installed. Seemed like it only took a few minutes to install the drivers & the default setup on at least one that I can remember was the minimum amount of software.

Maybe HP is starting to get the message like Norton did a few years ago. I can remember a year or two ago installing an HP printer on a dual core desktop that I replaced the hard drive in so it had a new install of Vista on it & it still took about 30 minutes to install.

I like Brother, Konica Minolta, IBM/Infoprint, some HP's, and a few others, can't stand Samsung, or most lower grade HPs..... I service about 5 HP's a day, and although I think the IBM ones are designed better I don't mind the HPs.... granted most printers we work on cost over $5K new so I deal mostly in mid-range printers.

Correct me if Im wrong but the IBM/Infoprints are rebranded lexmarks.

I dont mind the Infoprints and Lexmarks of that model. But the injets always seem to jam up quite a bit.

yes and no... Infoprint is actually Ricoh, Ricoh bought out IBM a few years ago, so they aren't Lexmark's anymore.... but I don't mind the older commercial grade Lexmarks..... they are/were workhorses.

I'm late to this thread, but aren't most/all Dell printers also rebranded Lexmarks? They've been horrible for as long as I can remember...

I know they used to be. In fact, they used to put a different chip and a little notch on the ink so you couldn't use the cheaper lexmark ink. The last Dell printer I messed with was a color laser last year. It was actually pretty good, reminded me of the Samsung models.

You know, You can download the basic driver package on most HP printers. But that is still about 67Megs in size. But I wanted to ask a question about the hp print/scanners. If you just install the basic driver package in a new install of say win 7 home premium then what do you use to scan documents or prictures from the printer? I see HP has the scan function built into the larger driver package. What happens if you dont want that and just do the basic driver?

Im from linux land and I would just fire up "Simple Scan" but what do you use in win7 to scan thats not 3rd party?

thanks

start menu> devices and printers>click on your printer and then there is a scan button there.

Wonder what Dell will be doing now? Dont know if they still rebrand lexmarks mind.

I use a cheapo colour DUplex Lexmark laser in my shop for printing receipts out. Has caused me no issues so far.
Apart from when I bought it, it had some error (can't remember what now) rang the place I bought it from they told me to contact Lexmark, who came out next day and put it right.

This is on a £167 printer. I couldn't really have asked for better service than that!!
