Lenovo Thinkpad Twist s230u Touchpad issue

We have a Lenovo Thinkpad s230u in. The touchpad and Trackpad internal to the keyboard are not working. N&P Windows 10 21H2. Have downloaded Lenovo Vantage to get the drivers, The driver is called UltraNav. It will not install (or doesn't appear to). Works fine with an external mouse. Touchscreen works fine. Just the touchpad and trackpad aren't. For some reason can not get into BIOS either. Also tried Snappy too. Any thought oh great ones. The two of us are off to the bar!!!!!! TIA

Boot it into Linux and see if it works there. That will tell you whether it is a hardware or software problem.

We were going to do that but can't get to boot menu or CMOS for some reason. Tried external KB too - no go.

If fastboot is enabled it will block access to BIOS. You can either disable it or access it from the Windows settings menu.

I disabled Fastboot but still no access to BIOS or Boot Manager

I have had built-in keyboards stop working and have been able to fix some of them by doing a full disassembly and reseating the keyboard cable. I don't see why the touchpad would be any different.

This could be the case here if you are able to determine that it is in fact a hardware issue.

I have also seen issues where after re-seating the cable and then the keyboard starts working again, but may stop working again due to the same issue in the future.

On some units holding shift while clicking restart will send you to Windows Recovery, and you can sometimes see an option within Recovery to boot from external media or enter BIOS/EFI Firmware. It won't be there on all systems but is a good place to look. Lenovo is usually F12 for boot menu, but there are systems that did use F8 and F10 in the past. Other systems you had to physically press the Lenovo Recovery button to start the unit. So you would hold shift while shutting down, then instead of power button, press the Recovery Button (looks like a circle with an arrow in it) and the unit will show onscreen options of what button to press for various options.

We got it solved. We had another Twist in stock refurbished. Switched SSDs and the refurbished one worked perfectly - not a Windows issue. Pretty sure it is a motherboard issue with the trackpad input.

On most Thinkpads you hit the Enter key to bring up the boot menu.

Pretty sure it is a motherboard issue with the trackpad input.

... or a touchpad cable issue. These can go open-circuit at the folds and it's almost impossible to see the gap.
