I have a bit of a problem, clients EI System 2513 it has 1GB of DDR2 but it is running slow and needs 2GB of RAM

There is only one slot and that has the 1GB stick in it. Crucial says it will only take 1GB DDR2 modules but it also states there are two slots, there isn't but the chipset dosn't know that does it?

My question is from peoples experience what is the chance of a 2GB DDR2 module working in it?

I'm not sure about the laptop you are working on but I know a lot of Dells have one RAM card you get to from the bottom of the Laptop and then to get to the other one you have to remove the keyboard. I think I have seen this configuration on an HP also.

No idea, it seems the company EI System dosn;t exist there is no website, if somebody could tell who makes them it might be a help. I don't want to start removing the keyboard (I can't even work out how) unless I know there isa slot there.

If there is another slot why didn't they put the RAM there in the first place?

I am pretty sure because it is cheap crap it was made with just the one slot.

E-System yep probably, I had a feeling they were Gateways?

So the one you saw didn't have a second cover under the keyboard? Crucial says it has two slots, and it can support 2 x 1GB, it doesn't mention if a 1 x 2GB will work.

The scanner was not much use either.

Yep it is confusing and giving me a head ache, so my best hope was that somebody might have done an upgrade on one before. It is a UK specific model though sold by that DSGi chain. No support no nothing.

This sums up why I always tell me clients to buy a big brand laptop.

Not yet, I can't work out how to remove it has there dosn't seem to be a bezel I can prise out. I am guessing it is screws on the base but no idea which ones.

I usually read instructions specific to the laptop before removing a keyboard but for this they don't exist.

I think you have a model where the second memory slot is under the top plastic to the left of the trackpad. but if not its for sure under the keyboard c-puz nor crucial will report a second slot if there wasn't one

Definitely under the keyboard. I cant remember on that range though, if the keyboard has the clips which undo it, or if there is a screw underneath also.

Just seen the above link, it confirms it only has 1 slot but dosn't say if it will support 2GB modules.

I assume I can get this information from doing research on the chipset itself? It is an Intel gl40

I know: No brownie points for me.

JD, read this thread from start to finish, only read it as if your posts were made by some other tech. Especially when that tech has posted a few times in the past about having business problems.

-_-;;; I would try to take it apart without the instructions, keep looking.
most likely it is under the keyboard.

if it takes DDR2 it should work with a single stick of 2GB. try with a spare in shop.
