Laptop screen resolution is out of control

I setup a 15" Thinkpad W-something laptop for a customer yesterday, pretty fancy. The default resolution was 2880 x 1620. They pulled up Quickbooks full screen and I couldn't read a thing the text was so small. If that was mine, I'd have the magnification permanently set at 200% I think. I think the hardware folks need to start talking to the software folks again, this is insane.

I had a Yoga something that I set up for a doctor a year or two back with QHD resolution and an EMR app that at the time didn't play well with Windows font sizing. Best option I had was to force the resolution down to 1/4 its native so everything would still look crisp and she'd still have full HD.

...and just how thick are your glasses?
This thick. :)

I also have a 2650x1440 28" monitor at home for my desktop, and I switched back to a 1080p screen and feel nauseous after awhile using it because everything is so big. Will be switching it back tomorrow haha.

I thought I would dredge up this old thread just to say it's getting worse. :)

I setup a Dell SPX15 laptop this weekend, Great specs - i7-6700HQ, 1TB SSD, 16GB RAM. The default resolution on that 15" screen was 3840 x 2160.

Fabs came up in a 2.75" x 2.5" box on the screen, with the text so small I had to take off my glasses and just about press my nose to the screen to read it. The default magnification in the Windows 10 display settings was 250% to make the icons readable.

It also caused problems with the various Fabs dialog text (not picking on Fabs here, I'll bet many programs didn't even contemplate resolutions like this.)

And one more thing while I'm complaining. :D

You pay $1,500 or so for a damned laptop and they can't even put the stickers on straight? It looks like it was bring-your-child-to-work day when they put on the fancy Intel i7 sticker:

For some reason that really bugs me. Now get off my lawn!

I set up an Ultrabook for someone a couple years ago with a resolution like that, and I just went in and changed it to 1/4 the native resolution. Screen still looked great, and the EMR software that I didn't trust to handle the resolution well worked just fine that way.
