Laptop screen - red tint after spill

Thank goodness this is my laptop and not a client's, because I'm sorta stumped.

I spilled water on the laptop while the lid was closed. Tried booting up a couple days later and it booted, but now everything's all red. VGA output looks fine, so I figured it was the screen and started replacing parts.

So far I have replaced the screen, inverter, and LCD cable without success. I'm really not sure if there's anything else that could be done... Could it just be the motherboard and only affect the LCD? Not sure where to go now.

Thanks!

Sound like you covered all the normal stuff...this is a stumper, to be sure.

I know this doesn't make any sense, but try booting with a linux/other cd just for kicks to absolutely rule out any OS/ driver problems. It's a long shot, but I've seen strange coincidences...

Also, if water did make it to the keyboard, on into the motherboard, I would want to disassemble & give the board a good cleaning, start from scratch.

I am interested to hear the outcome of this one.

What was the liquid? The MB probably needs a good cleaning in an ultrasonic cleaner. The GPU could have gotten soaked and that would affect the LCD image but not the VGA image.

I previously tore down the laptop to let it dry quicker. It didn't really pool up anywhere, but there were a few drops here and there.

Also, it turns red at the BIOS screen, so it couldn't be a driver issue. What the hell though, I'll try a linux CD later.

The liquid was just plain old ice water. I don't have an ultrasonic cleaner and don't know how to go about doing that... This happened over a month ago, and I've just gotten to the part where I'm ready to give up.

Since you already swapped out all the display parts that leaves the video out connector on the mobo. Get a spray can of contact cleaner and saturate it.
