[SOLVED] Laptop Screen Problem?

I'm repairing a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop screen problem. When you boot it the screen illuminates, but it goes from one solid color to fuzzy to vertical lines of different colors. When I move the display it actually works fine at one particular angle atleast which is pretty much right at 90 degrees. I also connected it to an external monitor and it displayed fine so I'm pretty sure it's not the video card. I had diagnosed it as either the display cable had came loose from display or motherboard (or) the display cable had gone bad; I replaced the cable and no the problem persists. I'm leaning towards it being the display panel itself, but could it still yet be something else? Thanks for any help.

Do you have a spare (smashed screen if necessary) of a 15.6 led you could swap the screen with?

This would quickly rule out if it's the screen or not.

Have you double checked the video cable is secure at both ends?

Is the cable trapped anywhere?

I think it could be the 'new' cable is faulty rather than the screen. As that has happened previously to me.

Unfortunately I don't happen to have a spare to try that. When I removed the old cable it was secure at both ends and when I installed the new cable I was careful to make sure the connections were secure although the connection at the panel is a little funky as there isn't much to put pressure on to get it into the connector, but I'm pretty certain I got it in there all the way. And I'm pretty sure the cable isn't being pinched or bent too much anywhere as I'm pretty meticulous. And the way the display behaves in terms of the pattern of solid color to blurry to vertical lines is exactly the same as what it was doing previously. If it was that the replacement cable was also faulty is it very probable that the display would behave the exact same? I mean it's probably not likely that the cables are faulty in the exact same location on the cable right (or maybe it is)? I had diagnosed it as the cable because of the symptoms and I understood that they wear out from the opening/closing of the lid. I'm on the fence about ordering another cable or the led. Thanks for the help.

If it's possible to power it up partially disassembled, giving access to the cable and panel, I would try flexing the cable. If that reproduces the fault, try firmly holding/clamping each end of the cable while flexing it again to determine where the bad connection is. Or try firmly holding the cable still while applying a little pressure to the connections at each end.

Try taking the Panel and cable out of the casing and plugging it straight to the mother board and see if it continues. If not, the cable might have been pinched somewhere along the line. if it still does it then id say it would be the LCD panel. I've had it happen to me a few times, and most of the time it was the panel itself, but it never hurts to test the cable too.
