Laptop screen issue - opinions? (screenshot)

Ive got a HP Pavillion DV 2700 with a weird screen issue. Customer thought it was a 'virus' but it occurs as soon as the machine is switched on, through POST, and into windows. So not likely.

I havent seen this before. Can anyone shed light on what the cause might be? - Im assuming video chipset but wanted to get some opinions before pursuing this route. As you can see from the photo, the screen is split in to six identical replications.

We had exaclty the same laptop in the other day
We believe it to be the graphics chip and are goin to try the good old heating up the chip trick.. have done it a few times on DV6 now and they seem to work. for a while at least. its the stupid hp design of were the grapgics chip is.. all the heat off the prossecor makin it overheat etc..
We will let u know how we get on. i will be monday before we get round to openin it up.
We seem to have atleast 5 DV6's in with the same problem.. graphics graphic and more graphics lol
